*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Looks amazing to me, I am baffled by anyone saying this is disappointing. AMD exceeded my expectations by a long way.

Spanks Intel's overpriced 6 core+ line up. Competitive in gaming especially with SMT off, so future BIOS could make this better.

Went for R7 1700 and ASUS MATX.
good choice, I think the smart money is on the 1700, I went middle of the road with the 1700x but not sure if this was a wise choice but you pays yer money and takes the chance I guess

How come this is doing so well yet some reviewers are claiming worse performance stock for stock? Are some doing something wrong? :S

This is more like it..... it starting to look like different reviews have wildly different gaming results....

Just watched TTL's 1800x review and while it still is a CPU that is fantastic bang for buck, very impressed with what AMD have achieved. I couldn't help but feel somewhat disappointed.

Put the CPU at stock and load all cores up and it would sit at 3.5-3.6ghz. Overclocked it would sit at 3.9. Couldn't get it any further than 4ghz with the temps mid-high 80's with a h110 gt (fans at full blast).

I gave up on his review when after 35 minutes he was still banging on and just not getting to any benchmarks....

Thats all he does, gibber for ages and repeat himself constantly. That video could probably be condensed to 10 minutes if he'd stop talking out of his hole so much.

hardware unboxed did mention

That with Intel every so often randomly he would get a hitch a skip frame ect ...with Ryzen non of this ???

@15.24

this reminds me of a typical amd release, loads of hype, then disappointment then after the dust has settled everyone realises well its not too bad after all

1700 v 7700K

1700 @3.9 v 1800X @3.9 = The same across the board, you just pay for a few 100Mhz.

Interestingly it's the established reviewers that have been around for ages getting terrible gaming performance.
I wonder if it's because they didn't update to the latest BIOS's as they didn't want to rerun all their tests or something.

Here Ryzen is also getting really good Minimum FPS, which is the complete opposite from other major reviewers.
