*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

How come the smaller 'indie' channels seem to be getting good benchmark results yet the big channels are getting completely different results.

Interestingly it's the established reviewers that have been around for ages getting terrible gaming performance.
I wonder if it's because they didn't update to the latest BIOS's as they didn't want to rerun all their tests or something.

Or perhaps some truth in the Intel email that certain reviewers were alleged to have received (as rumoured by Semiaccurate)?

I noticed in some benchmarks that people were getting around a 10% fps improvement by setting high performance mode in windows, amateur reviewers may have enabled this (I always have done on every machine I've ever built). Also the reviewers may have done their reviews last week or so. We already know there have been multiple BIOS updates in the past week for some motherboards.

Here Ryzen is also getting really good Minimum FPS, which is the complete opposite from other major reviewers.

Shadow of Mordor
1700X = 83.73
7700K = 71.55

GTA V
1700X = 41.11
7700K = 26.33

Rise of the Tomb Raider
1700X = 60.61
7700K = 22.69

I'm sorry, but i can tell you for a fact that on both GTAV and ROTTR which I own and play, I have never had frames drop below 60 or ever have any stuttering at all. And I run both fully maxed. I'm not trying to dismiss reviews, but his findings just aren't accurate.

How come this is doing so well yet some reviewers are claiming worse performance stock for stock? Are some doing something wrong? :S

This is vert telling the speed differences and still neck and neck

Nearly every review has GTA with lowers like that.

its basically many amd fans will post amd in a brighter light.many intel will post more intel side.the basic truth is gaming wise intel is quicker.also you have people who just got there new gear so they hardly going to say oh its slower .

LOL at intel conspiracies now. come on just admit its slower for gaming.

I seriously hope not, but there seems to be a clear devide between the Indies and the established reviewers here....especially in the gaming reviews alone.

I'm sticking to the established ones just being to lazy to constantly update the Bios and having to redo all their tests. We've seen it happen plenty of times when it comes to GPU drivers alone.

Techpowerup took ages before they even bothered to rerun GPU tests with AMD's ReLive drivers; and their overall charts kept using the older benchmarks from months prior.

More disappointed with the lack of chips dispatched on release day :( Come on OCUK can u get us an update?

Indeed weren't we told that Ocuk were the place to go for AMD because they had some sort of deal with them for a large amount of stock and early delivery ? haha

Looks amazing to me, I am baffled by anyone saying this is disappointing. AMD exceeded my expectations by a long way.

Spanks Intel's overpriced 6 core+ line up. Competitive in gaming especially with SMT off, so future BIOS could make this better.

Went for R7 1700 and ASUS MATX.

Its disappointing when SMT losses 10% of the performance in games in the Hardware.fr review,ie,the Core i7 6900K is only 10% ahead with SMT disabled.

Its just how AMD always has some bug or issue during a launch - if they were more open about it the CPU would have looked better in gaming benchmarks.

I think it's because the big sites use semi-automated/unattended test setups, so they are a pain to update.

Indie's probably do it all like we would and have the latest software/firmware/updates and best settings for each.
