Asus hero, asrock Taichi.

Single sided dimms. 2x2 configuration. Hynix Ic or Samsung working around 3000-3200 consistently on 140 or so clock. 4x2 not working above 2600, on most 2400 is max....

Not sure if I full understand that? Will the the Corsair 2x16Gb 3200mhz CL16 I've got waiting on my desk likely work with the Asrock Taichi and 1700X I have on order with OCuk at near max? :D

@8 Pack

Is that your recommendation.
Can I ask have you or someone else ( I know your not so interested in AMD) tried higher memory and tightened down?

Sure I tried with limited success. This is my recommendation why would I say it otherwise. Higher mems simply not working. Trained mem values are the most stable sure. Tweaking limited.

I presume Mizz Su means for future titles? It's too late for games that are already out?
Never underestimate AMD's desire to stick it to Intel. I remember back when Quake 3 was the biggest title going and AMD launched the K6 CPU series, they paid people to write a patch for Quake II to add support for their "3DNow!" instruction set, and that was no small task considering Quake II had multiple API options (Software, PowerGL, OpenGL, Glide) and each one needed reworking.

They'll work fine, just not at 3200mhz.

Those are high density. I tried 2x8gb on this board working well 2933- 3100mhz. Depends on blk and divider to what maxes your cpu and mem. I did not try 2x16 though on this board I would suggest with current micro code not working well.

I must admit, I found his earlier stuff interesting but his reviews at the moment seem like he has become arrogant unless I am missing something.

Nope your quite right, now he's got his new house and moving into a studio, I lost all interest with what he had to say when he blamed Mayhems for his loop changing colour and all his 'fans' started attacking his business.

Plus I don't think you can run 3 cards on the new AMD boards so his 'flagship' build won't be Ryzen anytime soon.

?? Because its getting irritating that literally every AMD launch has some problem like this - we are on an enthusiast forum so we will give it leeway.

But most people won't??

R9 290X,Fury X,RX480,etc. All reasonably solid but let done by some problem at launch which means Nvidia comes in gets some nice sales.

How can you excuse AMD hiding an SMT bug in games which reduces performance by upto 15% ??

On Hexus they mentioned SMT performance drops in all games.

How many of those review sites out there even knew about the issue?

So loads of people will be reading reviews where SMT has dropped performance without knowing it.

Its why I am annoyed - AMD is underselling their own product and I want AMD to do well and I can't understand what they achieved from hiding the issue.

In the end Intel and Nvidia take advantage of this and ignore AMD.

Cat I understand exactly what your saying but to be fair those people that go so far as to read reviews of CPUs understand the nuances. They're either happy to wait or just looking for a reason to throw around on forums to dis AMD. It will always be this way, they are the underdog.

The masses will buy what they know it see heavily advertised, so Intel an Nvidia. Even if AMD are twice as good they will still buy what they know, they did back in the Athlon era. They won't remember the first hyperthreaded Intel CPUs having issues in three same way, it's like the Apple religion there's no reasoning ;)

Server and OEM take-up is the most important. The enthusiasts won't care as they don't have at 1080p and understand that in a few months this will be a past issue.

I enjoy your posts but don't have a heart attack over it, it would be a lot less fun around here if you popped your cloggs!

Is that something that will be fixed in time/BIOS updates?

The Gigabyte Gaming 5 supports 3200MHz out of the box, I assume other boards just need fixes/updates and it won't be a permanent issue?

I very much doubt this is working on this board currently. Although I did not try it... Only the odd board I tried is... If it is single sided 2x2 configuration for sure only way.

Thanks for your input on the forum, much apprechiated :) I'll stick with what I've got, hopefully I can squeeze more than 2400mhz out of it, but I guess going 3200mhz may be out of the question even with future BIOS updates.

I see a few throwing toys out of pram. What I see is an excellent performance in various relevant demanding applications, acceptable performance for low rez gaming.
Across the board equivalent performance for high rez gaming.
And a good value proposition with room for development if software targets it.

Interesting review, I think it marginally spins results in favour of Intel, though user comments suggest gamers mostly wade through the 1080p bias and laugh, workstation users are flat out impressed.

I'd call this a gen 1 release and smart money waits for gen 2 (which has massive potential) but I suspect ryzen gen 1 will do very nicely, for my use case its looking gen 1 is a no brainer. Just would like some comparison of all 3 chips.
