*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I assume this is to do with the core not scheduling correctly / efficiently i read that somewhere think it was the AMD statement
Yes. Microsoft has to patch the Windows to support properly the SMT and other few features. As they did YEARS ago for the windows to support Intel's HT.
But many have very short memories how many issues existed with the HT and the Windows initially.
1700 clocked at 3.7Ghz compared the 6950X 10C20T :eek::eek::eek::eek:

Come on, don't drip feed it and torturing us. Push the damn CPU to 4Ghz+ and let us know how it handles :)

anyone watched the latest Gamers Nexus video ref Ryzen ? worth a watch - as quite interesting

Yep. Watch a lot of his stuff. He's looking to get a 1700 review out tomorrow. It seems to me that the launch has been a bit of a kerfuffle. Early samples not really up to snuff for reviewers.

Clearly the RAM and Windows issues will be resolved shortly. But Steve also gives the impression that the 1700 is the one to be most interested in.

Perhaps poor optimization is leading to the XFR chips getting too hot too fast or that software just isn't playing nicely yet.

I'd like to see reviewers go back and revisit their benchmarks when everything settles down a bit and we get a clearer picture of the state of play.

done that about 5 times

Can you try a different set of RAM? Does the motherboard has dual bios to switch to the second one?

And just a sanity check. Hopefully you haven't forgot the CMOS reset switch at the wrong position. Or isn't at the wrong position.

Also did you plug all the available power sockets on the motherboard?

1800X due today as per DPD text, ETA 2-3pm...office closes at 5pm...waited until 5.30pm and had to tell DPD via website to redeliver on Mon 06 March...gutted...hope the package will be safe until Monday -_-

Try taking out the CMOS battery then disconnecting all 3 power from MB and power supply then reconnect power and MB power. Power it on if it comes up with display and the reset your BIOS settings message power it off put the CMOS battery back in and power it on again.

Dpd confirmation email for cpu, board and water cooling bits from ocuk . Yay.

One down....

Now just need confirmation for ram...

God this build has been a pain and I don't even have any of it yet :)

I have popped out, be home tomorrow however I got it to bench at 3.9 and 4Ghz at 1.3 volts no tweaking just a dirty set and go. Over 20k score on the multithread!!!

Temps in the 50's, real bench h264 5 runs 64c.... impressive!

B350 mobo too, 16gb 2400mhz RAM

Went into a store and came out with these.

Not really the board I wanted to go for (wanted x370) but looks OK for my needs, just hope it allows for decent OCing of the R7 1700. Will be watching this thread closely as I see Scramz has the same board. What's your thoughts on it so far?

Can't build tonight though as I have not long got in and have to be out for work at 6am. Also the little one is asleep and the missus probably won't appreciate me hoovering the PC case out and bashing around :)

After the overclocking reviews, and the apparent lower voltage on the 1700, I'm seriously considering swapping from the 1700x & GB Gaming 5 mobo, to 1700 & GB Gaming 7 mobo.

It'll be about £50 less, but with the same clocks, lower temps, and better board?

Regardless your graphic card, if you have time, try to have a run on 3d Mark Spy. The CPU test is pretty good to show the relative gaming performance of the chip.
And post it also on the relevant Benchmark thread in here to compare it with the gazillion other Intels at various speeds.
It will be very interesting, especially if you have a GTX1080 or a TXP.
