*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Read a rumor this morning that theres a new Stepping of Ryzen in the works already, due 2H 2017, its apparently going to be an "FX" version of the chip with 4.0 base and 4.4ghz boost, massive salt required, but if theres any truth at all, im holding off for this one :)

If that is the case i think they will get very toasty lol

Lol if there about to drop another cpu already thats... silly

It looks like Hardware.fr has done some more testing with SMT off.

getgraphimg.php

But here is the big kicker!!

getgraphimg.php

They tested in performance mode and found not all the regressions were actually only down to SMT! ;)

Edit!!

PS: Mods, Hardware.fr provide forum links for their review graphs,as they seem fine for direct linking of their images.

Going by that there is a lot of truth in a large portion of the issue being down to how Windows is handling things

Look at my previous post!! I think before any new steppings we really need proper Windows 10 optimisations, for SMT,core parking and CPU power. Also some more stable BIOS revisions too. It just shows how AMD rushing all this out,is why there seems to be a gulf between what we see with gaming and non-gaming applications.

Be interesting if that FX" filters down to the lower tier chips. I'd take that with dump truck full salt but would be nice if true.

2H 2017, the rumor is they are waiting for the BIOS Updates, Win Patches and Stability fixes etc first to roll out before releasing anything else, otherwise they will just enrage customers who are waiting on these fixes. I dont think AMD are stupid enough to release any other CPU's yet til the initial Ryzen issues are sorted.

Ryzen went on sale four days ago mate, your a couple of weeks late.
I think he's on about the possibility of a Ryzen FX chip in 2H 2017...

Looking at some of the latest testing it seems clear that the scheduler is making things tough for some games, since Windows is using 2-4 threads where it should be using real cores.

When that's fixed and the 4c/8t model comes out it could be very interesting as I expect them to clock higher than 4GHz, but will be priced around the i3.

For a benchmark like CPUz that can have the Ryzen beating the 7700K in single thread at lower Freq, does this point to a real optimization problem? Its clear the power is there.

@Gibbo any chance we can know if we order the 1800X and Crosshair VI Hero from here when delivery will go out ?

I can cancel with the other retailer, I just need to phone order with OCUK (as my Visa has issues on checkout, phone works though with OCUK).
