*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Couple of questions for those lucky enough to have had their delivery :)

a) Is the platform stable other than having a few ram issues at the minute? AMD haven't always been the best when it has come to drivers.
b) Does the cpu underclock itself when idle as intel chips do when you have an overclock set? I know overclocking disables xfr but I was wondering if it affected the down clocking too.

Mines been as solid as a rock since 11am Saturday morning with a mild 3.6ghz overclock on a 1700. It's done a bit of gaming, some synthetic benching, a bit of encoding and plenty of general use since then and I've not had a single hiccup.

Not sure on it down clocking at idle as I've not really paid attention

I think he means re 2nd question Like Intel's speed step lowering volts/core speed looking at the cpuz results it looks like it does and from what i have been reading thus far the Ryzen is far more efficient at this than Intel...

That's what I meant, I haven't really paid enough notice to see if Cool n Quiet works with an overclock (AMDs equivalent to Soeedstep)

Same as mine, it has been solid once I did a fresh Windows install.

I have noticed that during idle it clocks down to around 2.2Ghz. I managed to clock my RAM up to 3000Mhz too using Gigabytes AutoTune application which worked really easily, just need to clock the CPU up now.
Cinebench results currently coming out at just below 1500 (R7 1700X with Gigabyte AB350 Gaming-3)

What settings have you used for 3000mhz on the memory? I've had no luck so far getting above 2666

Speaking of RAM.

I've got 2 x 16Gb Corsair LED dual rank, I'm very concerned this isn't going to work.

It is actually on the QVM @ 3200C16 and mine's 3000C15, so that suggests it should work if I manually alter the timings.

Anyone get the same RAM?

It looks like Hardware.fr has done some more testing with SMT off.

getgraphimg.php

But here is the big kicker!!

getgraphimg.php

They tested in performance mode and found not all the regressions were actually only down to SMT! ;)

Edit!!

PS: Mods, Hardware.fr provide forum links for their review graphs,as they seem fine for direct linking of their images.

Read a rumor this morning that theres a new Stepping of Ryzen in the works already, due 2H 2017, its apparently going to be an "FX" version of the chip with 4.0 base and 4.4ghz boost, massive salt required, but if theres any truth at all, im holding off for this one :)
