*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Look at this from September - Gigabyte were on board really early and they seem to have the best performance/fewest issues

http://wccftech.com/amd-am4-motherboard-pictured/

Yeah I believe what was actually stated is that all the manufactures were on board to a point but didn't commit the resources fully till late because they didn't believe in the product that AMD showed them in November. Come December it was all change though and because they hadn't allocated resources then they couldn't react as required then.

Very true but hopefully my other post about it taking two to tango and that it is also responsibility for board manufactures to have told AMD they were not ready and needed time to sort the Bios out. The cost to do this and the extra month to get them worked on then would have been the same as the time spent now, they just got them out to get cash flow back in on the monies they had already spent maybe because they wanted to get it in this years financial quarter which is likely the case with how the companies trade.

It is that lack of customer care provided by manufactures that frustrates me.

Completely agreed. That single month could have made a huge difference in the tone of the reviews published - which will be the first reviews prospective buyers would find with a search engine.

Maybe their fewest issues badge is due to also having the lowest supply ^^ (it's a joke).

I don't think that is 100% the case because a number of others also are in really short supply and the reviewers have tested them generally seem to be coming back with the most positive results which would still in the limited pool that we have currently suggest they are currently the board partner of choice for people moving onto Ryzen. MSI appear to be the other option. Asrock seem to not exist at moment.

Asus seem to be having the biggest/most issues at this time.

True but they do have meetings and phonecalls. If they spoke to AMD and said we need 6 weeks or whatever instead of 3 and all of them had done so then AMD in my opinion would have looked at it and gone OK they are all saying the same thing what do we do. It would have been different in that if 1 or 2 had said that then AMD would have likely not done anything different but it only works by having that ability.

There was no way AMD where pushing the release back whether the board vendors were ready or not. AMD would have been looking at been slated in every press release, all blogs, youtube channels etc & after the last Bulldozer fiasco it could well have been the end for them no matter how good Rzyen may turn out to be.

Some of these issues will take months to sort out. Would have been no point delaying by weeks

*sigh* I don't want to have to sit through a ***** Youtube video review/talk at the best of times, let alone one that's and hour and 45mins. What happened to well written articles?

Summary?

takes about 2 minutes from when you press play - @ubersonic linked it earler (found it) and they discuss both the motherboard bios issue and the power states and cpu driver issue. so , just press play and listen ;)

But things like smoothness can be measured with frame times. I'm not for a second saying Ryzen isn't smooth but why not just do some frame time tests as that's directly correlated to how smooth games will feel? You've got to give people actual evidence not just anecdotal. I mean you could ask the majority of people on this forum if their setup felt smooth and they'd probably say yes but if put some of those people with lesser rigs in front of a better one, their mind would soon change on how much smoother it could be.
You mean like this? Then go and watch joker video and you can clearly see when the 7700k hits 90+ load its stutters along.

Thx for this ...

I think that was updated on that site something to do with disabling the double buffer on the 7700k

http://www.zolkorn.com/news/report-an-error-for-ryzen-7-1800x-vs-core-i7-7700k-mhz-by-mhz/

Not sure how legit the whole site is but its worth a look again thx for taking the time with the above chart

Yes, saw the comment about the update before but that page's results are the same as in the main review (my spreadsheet took the average FPS), so maybe the original main review has been updated?

That was the one I was thinking of. It clearly shows some games have issues and the resolution is that having more than 4 cores is really needed. That is resolving the issue by the developer using what is possible. I still didn't understand the "having more powerful CPU isn't the solution to the stuttering" because it is and clearly what is needed as we progress games to get more detailed, higher res etc.

It also shows from same source that the i7 6850K and i7 6900K are better than the i7 7700K too which makes sense. I don't care if I have 10% lower fps if I am able to get much more consistently smooth gameplay at 60fps as that is what my monitor is capable of. Now if I was gaming at 144Mhz or more it may well be different depending on game where the i7 7700K still makes more sense and people want overall higher fps. That will change in time though as developers use the 1000+ system AMD are providing to optimise games.

Yes they will take months, they might not be sorted ever, however it would have given board vendors time to sort some of the current problems and retailers to have stock. AMD are already paying the price and if things continue as is for the next few months a lot of people who where intent on buying Rzyen will just not bother. My 2 mates have already sent their cpu's & mb back, I cancelled my pre order and you just have to look around these forums and others to see how much AMD have lost.

Anyone tried F4 BIOS on Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3 yet? I am running F3 but wondered whether it was worth upgrading to F4.

Single line listed for the description for F4.
  1. Enhance compatibility with DOS operation
