*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Seeing the compatibility issues i have seen, i think i will wait until things are more stable, i like to tweak as much as the next person but the inconsistency i am seeing so far is off putting, all i want is a stable system with the option to push it when i have the time and dial it in for max stable settings, so far all i have seen is a lack of support due to motherboard manufactures pushing what appear to be beta bios's (it seems) though whether it be amd's fault or motherboard manufacturers due to time constraints remains to be unclear(unless i missed something?). I hope it is sorted soon as the ryzen processor is what amd and us as consumers need, the performance is there, now get the devs onboard and run with it i say!

By that would you happen to mean this set: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...3600mhz-dual-channel-kit-black-my-08f-tg.html
I'm curious to know their comparability and performance with other boards as well?

Also would i be correct in assuming that RAM that works well for Taichi works well for the Professional Gaming and the Gigabyte Gaming 7k with Gaming 5?
each of those pairs seem very similar to me, from all i can note the Professional gaming has a extra Creative audio chip as well as a AQC108 (shame it's not a AQC107, 10Gb networking would have been cooler) and on the 7k it just seems to be a self overclocking chip of sorts

I'm pretty interested in using that memory with the Professional Gaming and not yet decided on the 1700 or 1800X but i think i'd go 1700, seems the more sensible option, but does anyone have any thoughts, opinions or advice on that board or anything else i just said?

not had a chance to test the gigabytes yet

Patiently waiting to see how that motherboard overclocks the processor. 4Ghz and I'm sold on B350.

Mine will do 4.0ghz stable on the Gaming 3.

The jump in voltage just isn't worth it though IMHO 3.6 @ 1.18v -> 3.9 @ 1.31v -> 4ghz @ 1.42v

These just seem to hit a wall past 3.9 where they need a lot of extra voltage for another 100mhz

Thanks a lot, i had a feeling it would have been the older style, if I'm not mistaken the old Xtreem uses 16 SKhynix ICs while the new one uses 8 Samsung ICs, if you could correct me if I'm wrong or possibly test the new style that'd be hugely appreciated.

also would you have any advice on that selection? (always thankful for a 2nd opinion.)

A lovely surprise was waiting for me when I woke up this morning. My CH6 has bricked. Board lights up but won't even start. I've tried the typical clear cmos, leaving the battery out, power draining and finally another bios flashback with the latest beta bios. I'm honestly at the end of my tether with this board and will just wait for a gigabyte K7. I'm very close to sending it back to OcUK.

Time for work. Rip.
