*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

No I personally wouldn't do this, I will go 1800X soon.

But the attraction for those that want to go AM4 from Z77 is the fact it provides excellent upgrade potential over the next few years. So you could go, in my example, from a 3770K to an 1500X for little to no outlay, have a better CPU with higher IPC, lower power usage and far better SMT, faster RAM, far better I/O (USB 3.1 etc) and know you can upgrade on the same platform for 3-4 years.

Brilliant.

Yeah that's completely fair, I forget how old the Z77 is.

I'm personally wanting to sell my i5 4690k, Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H and 8GB RAM and go for a Ryzen 5 1600, Gigabyte GA-AB350M and 8GB RAM.

I think about £200 will cover it. The idea of having an AMD CPU and GPU for the first time in a decade is almost worth it alone :)

Exciting times! I'm looking forward to my build too.

Why are they comparing it to the 970 board?
Any ryzen board can beat that. At least test it against something comparable. They might as well of compared it to a JCB

Its the first x370 board they had, they said they compared against the 970 to show how far AMD has progressed. In the review they say they will test it against other boards as well.

They've slipped in the last few years. They've only just got their hands on one x370 board? Amateur youtubers have had more than that.
I used to like toms but I rarely use them anymore.
I remember when they used to do cool stuff like this

From reading the review on Tom's Hardware, they received the motherboard on the day Ryzen was released.

The guy reviewing the motherboard works full-time as a systems hardware engineer for IBM, so I guess that's why the review has just been posted.

LOL I've not seen that video before :D

I do agree Toms Hardware is not what it was.

Classic

An ancient watercooling vid as well.

Great ...love them cream coloured cases a year later and 20 fags a day transforms them into a lovely beige multi mucky pattern

Hi Guys, I am debating whether to buy a Ryzen 1700 now or wait for the 1600x later. Just deciding what motherboard to go for. Can you guys tell me am I understanding things correctly.

Ryzen CPU's perform better with faster memory but There are currently problems with some motherboards supporting higher speed memory. If you overclock, only the x370 boards allow you to overclock the memory B350 motherboards cannot. It's better to use 2 sticks of ram rather than 4 at the moment if you are thinking of overclocking.

Is that the current status in a nutshell? If I have an AM4 motherboard that supports 3000MHz DD4 memory, is it better to buy ram that is running 3000MHz than 2400MHz? If I buy 3000MHz memory, can I buy a B350 board because I wont be overclocking the memory?

Not aware of this potential factoid myself, interested to see replies.
