*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Indeed, but looks like we won't be seeing much improvements on the RAM front until May. If only they could just allow for 1T or 2T command rate I'm sure that would solve most issues! The 1T command rate cannot be mandatory for Ryzen as the default 2133mhz runs at 2T, its only once you change that it forces 1T.

Depends on the BIOS. There's a BIOS for the ASUS CH6 that forces 2T.

My Gigabyte Gaming 3 Z97 defaults to T2 in all XMP's, i set it manually to T1, why do they do that? what so spesial about T2 vs T1?

20-30% that sounds just about where performance should be, AMD need to roll out patchs on most broken games used to bench, now that ashes of the singularity is done , what's left is Rise of the tomb raider, farcry primal, and hitman.
other games are kind of OK, when you come to think of it, it's basicaly only these 4 games that gave Ryzen the reputation of a non gamers CPU.

Anyone calling the Ryzen range a bunch of non gamers cpu's is either ignorant or being ignorant because they prefer Intel. It's doing well today and it's got a lot of potential,
Joker did a video today where he benched it against his 6 core Intel with his 1080ti,
He overclocked them to the best of his ability with 4.0 and 4.3 respectively and it did really well.
When I move on from my Haswell cpu I can't see a single reason why I shouldn't consider Ryzen.

Ahh harney's already posted it :)

What's strange in this is the gpu temp differences
On video look at some games on Ryzen. The 16th thread is running at 95% most times, while there are idling threads there at 17%.

While on the 6800K everything is around 40% load.

However the guy hasn't said what RAM speeds used on the Ryzen system

Give it a couple of months or so with some more game optimisations, more reliable support for fast memory and better BIOSs and the 1700 will look like a very good buy next to x99 CPUs. Fingers crossed.

Yes its very strange ...I am still trying to work out why the gpu is about 10c hotter on the Intel ..he does state sides where open ect ..so unless his amb temp went up by 7 to 10c who knows....

Most interesting thing there is just like with Linus, in GTA V 4K Ryzen is offerring a better experience. Where as at 720p and 1080p it loses badly in that game compared to Intel.

68 FPS vs 63 FPS
4Ghz 1800X vs 4.3Ghz 6800K

I still do not understand peeps recommending the 7700k for a new build even if its only for gaming.. prices are the same there abouts..Yes it may have better fps in 720p 1080 ect but for how long ?.. the Ryzen 1700 is for sure the better buy going forward ....

I looked at it a different way. I have been stuck on 4 cores since 2008 and my QX9650. I then waited for Bulldozer before buying a 3570k.

Now I started seeing bottlenecking in game caused by CPU but the i7's clearly never had enough of a pull to get me to upgrade. A combination of too expensive/still 4 cores and the 3570k still doing a good enough job.

But Ryzen with an affordable 8/16 thread.... is the Bulldozer I never bought!

It's exciting and something that should definitely stretch moving forward.

Another reason why I upgraded was I noticed recommended system specs for AAA titles where advising CPUs with 8 threads.

So I decided the time was right, even if it might be a little gamble.

Because its a big assumption. Most people are going to look at real results and real overclocks and make a choice based on actual info rather than the usual AMD "jam later" promise.
