g skill ripjaws 3000mhz cl14, from what i've read its still samsung b die, and i got mine for 115. Still waiting on parts tomorrow, so wont be able to confirm what i've read online about it yet, but seems like great value. One person on reddit overclocked theirs to 3200mhz without adjusting timings.
I ordered an asrock taichi just for aesthetics, but the gigabytes come with dual bios' which is good to have, and the msi tomahawks review well. When the taichi went out of stock i was set to buy a tomahawk arctic, but the taichi came back in stock here on saturday morning

These run well

G.SKILL F4-3200C14D-16GTZ Trident Z Series CL14-14-14-34, 1.35 Volt

Seriously cannot make up my mind which RAM or motherboard to buy for an R5 1600. D'oh!

If you want to spend a bit more get one of the big two Taichi or Asus Hero.

The Asus Prime Pro I have is good.... but there are losts of BIOS issues that need resolving. At least it seems Asus are on it and we should get some BIOS updates over the coming months. But at present there are ram issues and I also get an issue where my SSD disappears.

---

I probably should have spent a bit more considering the AM4 platform is going to be around for the next 3-4 years and got a bit more of an expensive board. However the Prime Pro is actually very good. But only if eventually it allows me to set my ram to the DOCP profile and run it at 3200Mhz. Also if the issues with my SSD disappearing in the BIOS get fixed I will be a very happy customer.

---

Just to put this in to perspective it's only been a month!

had my doubts over the crosshair reading all sorts of issues earlier on the release but so far mines been pretty good with no problems, as to what ram to buy im still in the dark myself and running some kingston fury 2400mhz i bought second hand to tie me over

It's the overall combined for all tests, which is why the seperate the two resolutions at the end. Even at 1080p it includes some exceptionally bad games for Ryzen, some which have now been getting patches to fix the issues. Such as Ashes which a recent update added 31% FPS gain.

That was also an early review, since BIOS updates and patches have increased performance.

Even this is an early review, and found the difference was 7%, once again a review with Ashes before it got that massive 31% increased performance update.

More and more reviews showing the gap closing, so anyone spouting Ryzen is another Bulldozer that's 20-30% slower ( while being clocked significantly higher ) is simply lying.

Is Ryzen slower than Kabylake? Yes, it's got the IPC advantage and can clock 1Ghz higher. Is Ryzen getting completely trounced and terrible for gaming as many claim? Not in the slightest; as despite the IPC and Clock advantage the difference is minor, except for some fringe cases.

Sometimes I wish that comments on the Internet were accompanied by the ages of the people writing them (this wouldn't apply to me of course. ;)). When I look at comments on Wccftech or YouTube about these topics, I despair at the level of education shown. If it turned out I was reading an argument between twelve year olds, I would breathe a tremendous sigh of relief. But I fear it would more rather just confirm my views of the general state of the population's grasp of basic statistics and reading comprehension.

They are a lot more expensive though for similar performance, i've seen g skill trident z 3600mhz cl16 for 165 though, I didn't feel that there would be enough performance improvement for me at 1440 ultrawide at 60fps though with a gtx 1070, as i'm only upgrading to improve my minimums, and to have an upgradeable platform for the future.

Meanwhile over at camp gigabyte the ab350 gaming 3 is still officially on launch day BIOS :o

gonna bang them another email to see if there is any more betas I could try out. The memory cold boot issue is a bit of an annoyance to say the least.

I dont know if it just because of my amateur clocking ability or whether its the board, but on my gigbyte i have the profile 1 loaded at 2666mhz but for some reason it stays at 2133? is it something i am doing wrong?

Gigabyte support is just as good, but then there's only a £30-55 difference.

I've also found Asrock Support to be 1st class, my Logitech g510 keyboard was not working at POST until after it booted into the OS so I was not able to press Delete to get into the BIOS. They sent me a custom BIOS update to fix the problem in a single day!

How did you get into the BIOS to flash it?

I had to use a cheap keyboard that I was using with another PC, it was a bit of a hassle before to swap keyboards each time I wanted to boot into the BIOS or select a different OS at bootup. It's working fine now with the latest BIOS update.

WRT motherboard customer support, I have had no issues with ASROCK for my x99 system and iv seen very good things about gigabyte with them rolling out lots of updates to the gaming X370 K7 and 5 (as well as having reps online on Reddit and their forums)

Yea, that 1600 looks a great chip, good all-rounder

Yeah, and probably pretty much the same gaming performance as the R7 as half the cores or more are sitting idle on that, the R3 will probably match it in at least half the games tested.
