Seems AMD wasn't exaggerating when they said Ryzen would be great for streaming. People (e.g. hardware unboxed) will still find some benchmark that puts the i5 ahead in one case and go on about that.

I think it's a given they will all top out at 3.9-4Ghz on air/water.

I don't want to put a downer on your day but I wouldn't expect much from this memory. I've got the exact stuff sitting on my shelf doing nothing 2666 was the most I could get.
I tried it with a msi tomahawk and a crosshair hero neither could get it above 2666. The gskill I currently have worked at 3200 straight away with no issues. This may improve with time but no amount of messing with settings would work for me.

Fair enough, cheers mate. Ive had corsair on my last 4-5 rigs with no issues, so the thought of venturing over elsewhere was a little daunting. ill be happy for now with 2666 i think

Just as I was ranting about the lack of official BIOS, the official stable F6 with updated AGESA 1004 is out so maybe this will solve your mem issue

It'll be 3.9-4.1GHz exactly the same as R7, it's the process that's holding Ryzen back more than anything. If that can be refined and start getting CPU's hitting 4.5+ with Zen+ Intel are going to be given a real run for their money, the 4GHz wall is the only thing giving them breathing room at the moment.

I think these comparisons will be useful for Intel fanboys as the 7700K overclocked is clearly going to beat the 1500x -- but like you say the pricing is aimed at i5 competition, which it's likely to beat.

Buy the 1600 anyhow, not the 1600X, you will get same clocks from the 1600, and a lower power requirement out of the box and i think the 1600 comes with a cooler.
