*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I5 is dead

And X99, and potentially X299, and almost everything else in the lineup. It seems now the most compelling Intel chip is the $64 Pentium G4560, and to a lesser extent the i7700k which is now relegated to DX11 games and other games that are heavily single-core focused.

I think its great to see AMD competitive again at long last, it seems PC enthusiasts and reviewers are enthusiastic again for the first time since the Sandy Bridge era :)

Thought i was going mad ...Seems your post was new vid after-all :)

but in this one @ 6:20 he dishes the b350 toma completely and recommends a x370

Bit harsh on MSI there..

I find both my toma boards fine with the 1700's

I find it hard to disagree with him here. I've had the tomahawk myself (still have on my shelf) and I found the options quite limited aswell as MSI's support being abysmal.
For those quick change the multiplier and reboot jobs like the intel boards though then they are ok for that.

So the question remains where does this leave Intel? They are clearly not going to take this lying down. They must have something in the pipeline?

As previously said, lowering prices admits that they are worried. So expect the same overpriced quads on the shelves. Outside of HEDT though I think intel have been took by surprise here. Complacent for too long.

No chance, you can blame Apple and Samsung for the price hikes. They're buying up every piece of DRAM stock and occupying all of the manufacturing processes. Until DDR5 arrives I can't see it deflating.
Not for a while yet, from what I've been reading.

Thanks. Not what I hoped to hear, but it is what it is. I have high RAM needs for non-gaming purposes.

For now all intel can do is reduce prices a little (they cant do too much as investors will get jumpy). They have also for some strange reason decided to bolt on a 4c/8t part to the X299 lineup personally I see no point in that as the X299 platform is targeted mainly at workstations where core count is needed more (in comparison to gaming)

In the future (cant really happen for at least one generation, probably two) they will probably start rolling out 4c/8t i5's and maybe 6c/12t i7's but this will start eating away at their HEDT market. They have kinda priced themselves into a wall ......

Can't really blamed them tho. They made hay whilst the sun was shining. Same as Nvidia. Both had free reign of their respective markets.

We need AMD to maintain this new start they seem to have managed to pull out the hat. That's the key. Consistency.

Ohh sure, any company would have done the same. It just so happens that now the only thing intel can do is try and lower the price as much as possible.

Bloody hell the 1500X is really cool on the stock cooler at 4Ghz!

So let's sum up, 1500X is ~10% Slower than 7700K, but $160 cheaper.
Hits 4Ghz on STOCK cooler, on cheap B350 motherboard, and runs at ~60degrees under load.

So can someone tell me why you'd want the 7600, 7500, 7400, or i3 7350, all which cost $190 and over?

Yep, not only does AMD's stock cooler let you overclock easily, but let's not forget that whilst the i7-7700K can reach 4.9+ GHz with relative ease, it pretty much needs to be de-lidded to avoid housefires. Pay more to Intel for crappy TIM and a crappy cooler!

Hopefully Foxconn buy up Toshiba eh

Erm, you do know Samsung is actually the biggest manufacturer of RAM/NAND in the world right?
