*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

It was something like that, Nvidia brought out Gsync then AMDMatt on this forum (then LtMatt) suggested to AMD that they counter with Adaptive Sync and call it "FreeSync" (and I told him it was a dumb name /blush), I think it was something already used in laptops or a VESA spec or something, can't remember all the details exactly.

Ordering is wrong - it existed on laptops long before any of the desktop versions. Then, behind closed doors, both nVidia and VESA (of which both nVidia and AMD are members) started working on it. nVidia announced GSync shortly before adaptive sync on desktop was announced though given the timings was already well underway. The freesync name was a joke from on here after adaptive sync was already announced, but as AMDs marketing name for it... which stuck!

I thought it was interesting seeing the June 2 patch for Quake Champions and up comes a huge splash for AMD Ryzen.

It seems HP is now introducing Ryzen as an option in its gaming PCs:

There will be corporate SKU's using ryzen in workstations shortly after also... quote from my guy at HP below...

"It actually going to be August before we see sku’s with the Ryzen processor on desktops and end of the year for notebooks so unfortunately there is nothing I can quote you right now."

I do however know that there are server SKU's in the pipeline also (was told at a hp event held by both HP, AMD and VMWARE at merc world not long ago)

I am really looking forward to having some AMD servers again. If only MS didn't change the datacenter license to a per core model :(
