*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Any Zbrush users, here. Seems like Ryzen got 204,772% "performance" increase. (Guess its more of a bug fix). From 22.5 seconds to 11 milliseconds.

I just came to post that too, Along with a big improvement in ROTTR which it needed it's great news as it fell behind quite a bit in that title.
It's good to see that it's just tweaking that's needed and not just an underpowered architecture.

This is the truth of the matter, Intel has been the market leader for how long? everything is compiled and tuned to run good on Intel CPU's, now you see when someone actually tunes software to utilise Ryzen correctly the performance increases as you expect it should.

Problem now though is Intel still dominates the market massively, you will need a gigantic shift in market for most software devs to actually tune their stuff for AMD CPU's going forward, AMD done the right thing with Bethesda but i cant help feeling they are trying to force the VR thing, they have been on that bandwagon a while now, and unless headsets become drastically cheaper, thats a fad thats not really going to take off i feel.

What AMD need to do is work with all developers and get them onboard with their CPU and getting the most out of it, unfortunately their budget does not seem to allow this, its catch 22, need market share to increase marketshare.

Price. Ryzen is cheap enough for the average Joe system builder to install. As long as Intel jack up their prices this will help AMD gain market share. I do think that Ryzen is at this early point a success.

I imagine OC's will sell a lot more Ryzen's than Intel CPU's this year.

This is a good point, i have a CH6 Motherboard, 3400mhz Ram and a CPU cooler waiting for a Ryzen chip, im waiting for hopefully Zen+ though, im in no rush currently as my 4770k and 1070 plays EQ1 fine ;) looking forward to getting Vega when it releases however as i miss being able to use Freesync on my monitor.

I know a few people who bought the 1700 recently, so AMD are definitely taking sales.

Why on earth would you buy motherboard now if you aren't going to be using it?

If you are waiting for Ryzen 2 cups, there will be better boards out then?

Got it off MM for cheap ;) figured id buy it now as it was a bargain, besides i will filter it down to the boys probably when Zen2 comes, the kids will have a PC each then.

You are right, but IMO EPYC will be what leads the charge in AMD processor optimisation.

From what i've seen and understand. EPYC will do very well over the next few years for AMD outside of the big contract wins we have already seen. With the use of EPYC in the server market, software developers will optimise their software for it. (You have to when your client is paying millions). Developers do share there coding tips with each other, and we will see these optimisation, tips and tricks, trickle down to the mainstream stuff. Hopefully one of these contracts pays AMD to create their own compiler because they can't rely on intel to play fair.

It turns out that AMD is really pushing for Ryzen Optimisations in games right now. We could see Ryzen optimised games by the end of the year/start of 2018.
AMD have sent 300+ ryzen developer kits and are on track for 1000+ by the end of the year.

Didn't Rise of the Tomb Raider get Another Ryzen patch? Performance is up again.

Yup! June 26th! Yesterday!
