*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

Unfortunatly AMD are not Intel, they can't just snap their fingers and plough $20bn into developing a ground up new architecture like Zen in 12 Months.

Agreed, but they certainly could have axed the design after vishera.
But Gf stuffed them up for 28nm.
We're only just seeing Carrizo take II on desktop Oem after a year since mobile. With it so late now in the game Bristol Ridge should/could have been put onto 14nm.

Only if you believe XP1800. You can set your watch by an AMD releases. AMD=punctual.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic.
The amount of times I've seen AMD put a date on things and miss is hilarious.

Mantle in BF4 was loltastic. DICE released the patch days before AMD launched drivers.

AMD announce things like doing an interview on Youtube, and they're late even doing that.

Like I say, do you think we'll see any Zen products available to own this year?

Never seen AMD be late on anything TBH. Of course we will see Zen products this year. Don't worry you will be able to upgrade that Surface Pro with the AMD chip you always wanted. Or wasn't interested in. I can never tell nowadays.

Side note. Mantle is a godsend. The extra performance in BF4 is fantastic. But the question is was AMD late or did Dice jump the gun?

Side note 2. Shock horror. Well if AMD was late for a youtube interview they have no chance of completing the Zen project. Do you have link for the interview?

AMD will finally shipping Zen CPUs and X370 chipsets to OEMs and motherboards makers sometime in December 2016 but will it will missed out xmas sales. OEMs will be ready to start selling Zen desktops PCs when AMD will launch both Zen CPU and X370 chipset at CES 2017. Zen was original planned Q4 2016 launch for OEMs but now it pushed to Q1 2017.

We probably look at Spring 2017 for Zen to hit retailers as AMD are busy clearing CPU inventory, it is possible that it could take longer if AMD are in same situation with cleared excessive inventory of unsold Radeon 200 series GPUs for Radeon 300 series or write it off CPU inventory if they cant dump it.

We probably will have to wait until after CES 2017 to find out Summit Ridge benchmarks from OEMs or reviews.

AMD late again. :(

Pretty sure they said 2017 for Zen with a MAYBE limited Zen supply in December.

Well originally it was going to be 2016, as seen in the 2015 AMD Analyst day slides, but slippage does happen, as long as a CES announce doesn't turn out to be 3-6 months before you can actually buy them then it isn't to much to worry about. If it doesn't perform though, then that would be a different matter.
