*** AMD "Zen" thread (inc AM4/APU discussion) ***

I think the poor pound will make Zen look worse then it would have done but I'm still expecting 6-8 core CPU's with at best Ivybridge performance at mainstream prices.

Mainstream prices being what ever intel are charging for their top i5 CPU at the time.

please dont give them a excuse already. :p

remember intel stuff is also more expensive so its mute point.;)

does it matter if its priced same as i5 ? no what matters is if it is not faster for the same price.just like the previous gen 6-8 core amd cpus which were slower than i5s.

i think that is the market these new chips will go for.they wont try to compete with the higher end x99 and so on.

Did they delay because LPP+ became available?

So let's say they were supposed to drop in Oct originally, that was planned since last year, based on the foundry not being bungling oafs.

It's a possibility.

Them delaying ~3 months would likely be worth it if it meant something like a ~200-300 MHz bump at all price points over what they originally planned.

I don't see how when Intel CPU's have gone up in price due to the low value of the pound atm

I don't think its relevant to judge AMD on how well they do or not against Intel.

The chances are ZEN will not quite make it to the higher spectrum of expectations, it will be very good in many ways but lacking a bit of maturity compared with Intel's offerings.

The noisy gratuitous amongst us are already itching to scream... HAW HAW... told you so...... Intel FTW take all my money.

Intel entry level 8 thread i7 hits the £400 price tag.
AMD are over the ###### moon because they can sell an equivalent chip for £200 to the remaining 5%. and with in a context of themselves 'make a killing'.

It really doesn't matter who wins the right to brag.

If AMD can produce a product good enough in its own right and at the right cost there will simply be more people in this world who feel like winners.

AMD used to charge £800 for Athlon FX branded processors, they more recently tried to charge £800 for an overclocked/overvolted FX8350. They were charging £200-250 for FX8150 until realising nobody in their right mind would buy it.

AMD aren't cheap by choice or some noble crusade to give people cheap hardware, if Zen is as competitive as they say it is it will be priced close to Intel's offerings.

A lame and irrelevant argument that keeps cropping up.

Market forces, not AMD will determine the final price of ZEN chips.

As you put it "nobody in their right mind would buy it" and nobody did so now they charge what people will pay.

A 'lame and irrelevant' argument is exactly what you just wrote down in a different way. You are saying the same thing, yet you call his lame? WTH are you smoking ? lol.

Which is exactly what mmj was saying.

I think if you go back in history Scougar you will find mmj rarely has positive things to say about AMD. This is the way I am reading humbugs slant.

You could for want of describing it infer that some people merely post on here to either stir or because they simply love the intel brand. Arguing for the sake of arguing. But then again what else would you expect on the CPU or the Graphics Card forums...

:D

To be fair there's rarely anything good to say about them unless you look at them through rose tinted glasses like some on here who tend to worship them like some kind of church. They've fallen years behind the competition and can't even compete at the very top now, Intel have a 10 core processor out now and are likely to be up to 12 cores by the time Zen is released.

Like Scougar has said my point was that there was a time when 'market forces' allowed AMD to charge ridiculous prices of £800 (and AMD took advantage of it like any successful business would) but those days are long gone.
