AMD Zen3 event thread

You started at the 8c sku. If you want to compare to 3700x with 5800x. 3700x is behind on 3800x by 5%. So that’s a performance gap of 24%, 3700x launch is at $329 so 36% increase. Not that crazy as per your original post saying 37% increase 19% performance boost.

so if you want value why look at the 8c?? You said it yourself it is the least bang for buck so why bring it up?

12c part 19% gain, 10% price hike
6c part 19% gain, 20% price hike.

You can’t pick and choose. You need to be fair.
So the 6 core 5600 is 21% ahead of a 3600 for 50% more cash then?

Also we are comparing release prices and since those prices have dropped considerably on zen 2 parts your currently looking at a 60% increase on a ryzen 5 3600 at today's prices and a massive 80% increase over what you can buy a 3700X for today for as you said a 24% performance boost.

Marketing? Are we basing this on facts and figures, or am I missing something?

Did the 3600X exist? Yes. Does the 5600X exist? Yes.

Ryzen 5 2600X 95w, 3.6GHZ base, 4.2GHz boost released at $229
Ryzen 5 3600X 95w, 3.8GHz Base, 4.4GHz boost released at $249
Ryzen 5 5600X 65w, 3.7GHz Base, 4.6GHz boost released at $299

The standard 3600 was 3.6GHz base, and 4.2GHz boost at 65W, and as such you can expect the standard 5600 to be 3.5/3.6GHz base with a 4.4GHz boost, at ~$229+ Just because it hasn't been released or announced doesn't mean it can't be.

Are you annoyed that they've made the X part more efficient due to the lower TDP? It seems that if you are comparing like for like using model number or power, you chose one or the other not both, otherwise you are saying they are not allowed to make improvements to the TDP.

I think you are more likely to see a 95w 5650X or whatever they want to call it this time released rather than a 5600 non X as I dont recall an X and a non X released at the same TDP.

I also think the $200 price point is far more likely to be filled with a quad core.

 So buy a 3600 it's better value for money ? What's the problem. You want faster, you pay more. Normal. You have plenty of choices - hell on AM4 you can go from £40 Athlons to a £700 3950X right now. You'll also still have that choice after the 5xxx series release.

why do you keep on comparing across the SKU? what is it with you??? so frustrating.

and what the hell do you want from manufacturers? bring out brand new products to compete on prices on older products they have lowered over the course of 18months and bring performance to the table. if you are on this mantra then why not compare it with 1700x or even 4770k or 2500k. massive perforamnce jump but those old CPUs cost pennies. what are you getting at...

GREED describes you perfectly.

if you want value do what most people do, wait for a few months for the new CPU to depreciate and really stop keep on digging this hole and trolling it.

I already own a 3600 which I brought as it represented better price to performance than intel but now if I want to upgrade to i'm essentially paying more for the same gaming performance I could have got by going with intel initially.

Because the SKUs are virtually the same with a couple of performance % between then hence why no one with a brain brought the X version.

How is it greedy wanting VFM? I'm just on the side of the consumer and not big business where as your acting like you have shares in AMD.

Eh? AMD have put prices up by $50 across all the SKUs. They've also decided not to release the better vfm SKUs and according to GN have "no plans" to release such SKUs (as the 5700X) in future.

And we're the ones who are greedy?

How about they kept the _release price_ the same as last gen?
How about they released the better vfm SKUs, the same as last gen?

So the only way to not be "greedy" in your estimation is just to bend over and never complain. Like a good consumer.

As @Rroff said earlier, I'm looking forward to the RDNA2 launch on the 28th. And seeing how much AMD decide to push up all the prices across their GPU range too. Maybe if we're lucky we can have a 6700XT for £600.

But so long as they keep selling the 5700XT that's OK, right? The older one is cheaper!

No you aren't because they don't sell an non-X 5600 and you didn't buy the 3600X, you bought a 3600 which was the better VFM. You are complaining they have not yet released the better value part, and had you bought the Intel equivalent at the time it would have been a 9600K 6c/6t part for £265. You could sell your 3600 for £150 on the MM and and spend £279 on a new 5600X, and have spent a total £319 for better performance in the end due to more cores/threads and the IPC increase to boot.

Again, you just seem annoyed they didn't hit the price points you wanted, and haven't released a 5600 non-X.

I too am annoyed they didn’t hit the price points I wanted, but ultimately it will affect me less than Amd as I won’t buy and they’ll get nothing from me rather than something.

They are pulling a fast one with this launch and I don’t like it. I can only hope it’s more to do with the amount they can supply early on, I don’t mind them profiting off impatient early adopters but that price needs to come down.

Gamers Nexus in that same video didnt seem to worried by the price bump but also said they reckon that sooner rather than later AMD would release something in the 200$ price segment. I think it is pretty obvious that in the next few months Zen 3 will fill all price points

Most likely a Ryzen 3 quad core part if the current trend continues.

And people here will lap it up. "The 5600 5500 quad-core easily matches a 3600!" By that trend we can expect the 6600 to be a dual core quad core too :p Or for the 6500 to cost £300, one or the other.

Thankfully Reddit has its head more screwed on and virtually everybody is disappointed over there.

I am all for better value. But I don’t like your arguments. You aren’t making fair comparison jumping across SKU to force your argument

why have you not bothered to look at the 12c SKU? Which has more bang for buck than before.

and your argument of using current retail price against a new launch price doesn’t stack. It like comparing an overclocked part vs a stock part. Never gonna win.

honestly, most people here know what they can afford and what they want. If you think the parts are 10% too much then wait for a couple of months. If you want to buy the new gen at the same price as current gen then wait for the Zen4 coming out etc etc.

no one is trying to make you buy the CPU arguing about bang for buck in the way you are is just ridiculous.

personally the 12c is a clear winner in terms of last gen to next gen gain in terms of what you get for the price you used to pay. But everyone has a budget so you afford what you can. Also the 3000 is still around you got one in your system so what’s the moan?! You can afford to wait around for the price to depreciate...what is the problem?

Erm...If you expect people to give you stuff for nothing that’s greed...

people got the right to moan and cry, but I will call it out if they aren’t being fair about it and being a little b. That’s the crux of it.

I love the double standards on display here. Intel and Nvidia increase prices and change tiers, they are terrible and greedy anti-consumer companies which rip off customers. The amount here who criticised Nvidia for Turing and mocked Intel for the Core i9,etc. AMD does the same, that is all fine,no problem.

It was like the price defence force who defended Nvidia when it started all its £1000 Titans, etc even though many of us said it would eventually warp the market upwards.

Years later it happened, and many of those experts went quiet. Its like voting to make yourself worse off.

So I expect the people defending AMD,will never criticise Intel and Nvidia again,if they start doing stuff like Turing, etc.Apparently consumers serve companies not companies serve the interests of consumers.

Honestly I think our government needs to ask Intel,AMD and Nvidia marketing for some tips. People are asking for these companies to charge them more - imagine if the government could get people to ask them to charge more tax? I am sure that would help the government coffers! :p

Agreed. At least three people I know around me have decided to skip Zen3,and stick with what they have,or get something cheaper. I will just stick with what I have. Consumers don't exist to prop up companies(especially foreign ones which don't contribute much to the UK economy).

The 12 core part is decent value especially when compared to the 5800X and has 50% more cores and is only £120 more

When a new product hits the market its generally compared to whats currently available and the current pricing of those parts.

Sorry who has asked for AMD to give them a free CPU?

Please show me ONE post from anybody who said AMD should give away their CPUs. Otherwise why are you arguing against something nobody has said?

In which case aren't these new chips priced reasonably?

Most likely a Ryzen 3 quad core part if the current trend continues.

I think as their inventory of current gen chips gets smaller they will start discontinuing them, lowering the price of the new models and filling the stack with more SKU's. At the moment if you shop around a 3900x can be had for <£350. AMD seem to have all tiers covered pretty well, failing to see a problem so far

I just don’t get the mindset of people trying to defend or justify what they have done with this launch. I brought the 3600 because it was the sweet spot for me, with the intention of dropping in an 8 core Zen 3 chip. Do they seriously think I’m going to spend PS5 money on an 8 core chip. Not a chance in hell. I’ll sit on what I have buy a PS5 and use the gpu upgrade money on 3 or 4 years worth of games.

This has to be the lowest point for me in all the time I’ve been into building pc’s. My money is better off elsewhere.

I just don’t get the mindset of people trying to defend or justify what they have done with this launch.
Emotional investment in AMD and brand loyalty. This forum is heavily biased to AMD. There are a few Intel die-hards here also, but the vast majority of the vocal posters here are flying AMD's colours and quite proud of it.

Just look at all the disappointment on Reddit for a more representative (I hope) view of this launch.
