AMD Zen3 event thread

Just look at all the disappointment on Reddit for a more representative (I hope) view of this launch.

AMD Reddit has a ton of vocal AMD users, who are not happy about this. Maybe AMD will reduce the price closer to launch, and say it was their marketing plan all along to Jebait Intel.

:P

I just don’t get the mindset of people trying to defend or justify what they have done with this launch. I brought the 3600 because it was the sweet spot for me, with the intention of dropping in an 8 core Zen 3 chip. Do they seriously think I’m going to spend PS5 money on an 8 core chip. Not a chance in hell. I’ll sit on what I have buy a PS5 and use the gpu upgrade money on 3 or 4 years worth of games.

This has to be the lowest point for me in all the time I’ve been into building pc’s. My money is better off elsewhere.

You can still buy a 3700X for £299 or less if you shop around

Is your 3600 struggling?

In which case aren't these new chips priced reasonably?

Should be the same price or slightly higher than the last gen. More money for more perf shouldn’t be allowed to become the norm otherwise we stagnate via price

Sorry who has asked for AMD to give them a free CPU?

Please show me ONE post from anybody who said AMD should give away their CPUs. Otherwise why are you arguing against something nobody has said?
he has asked AMD to match the price of the current retail price of 3700x and 3600 CPU for the 6c an 8c parts whilst wanting to enjoy performance gain. if thats not asking stuff for free, I dont know what is...

When a new product hits the market its generally compared to whats currently available and the current pricing of those parts.
I think you might have taken the RTX30 prices actually gone down against the 2090ti significantly as being the norm. it is not. everything like literally everything not just cumpting stuff, food, fuel, cloth, properties, go up with inflation and by your standard, we would still be paying £50 for a CPU cos that was how much it used to be like 20yrs ago but having current performance.

C'mon man, the only time you can compare price for value for a new product vs old product is MSRP vs MSRP at launch. as i said 3080 is a anormaly where the bang for buck dropped masively if you go to all the youtuber's videos about price/Frame analysis, those are based on launch prices not the current retail.

No not at all I was intending to upgrade to zen 3 as it would my last build for possibly 4-5 years. I don’t need it hence I won’t pay those prices and Amd have now lost a sale, I’ll pick one up second hand when zen 4 arrives. If I can even be bothered that is.

Intel and Nvidia increase prices and it's ok, AMD do it and people have a full on breakdown. AMD deserve higher margins for their achievements over the past few years. I will happily give Lisa an extra $50 for a zen 3.

$50 off 5900x and 5600x will make them very attractive. 5800x probably $75 too dear. i still think there will be discount during the sales season.

Not many here who agree with you, although I do. More than happy to pay 5900x prices.
After all, it's an extra £38 lol.

they are a billion dollar company, they can do without those $50. the praise they get for a job well done is total market domination and sky-high stock prices.

for $50 Lisa probably wont even remember your name if you told her...

No ones having a breakdown fella some of us are just calling as it is.

They’ve bumped prices up whilst simultaneously removing the bang for buck skews. Some people will pay whatever it costs some of us won’t.

Must have missed all those happy people about Intel and Nvidia... :S

Its not ok for nvidia or intel either in my view, which is why I haven't bought an Intel cpu since my i5 3570k or why I didn't purchase a turing gpu.

You're welcome to pay extra though that's your choice, but I won't

Yeah a small increase would be acceptable but this is a double whammy of them not releasing the equivalent SKUs that offered decent value the last time around and then tacking a large increase on the already overpriced SKUs.

Question: was the RTX 2000 series a) the same price as the 1000 series b) a small jump up in price c) a medium jump in price or d) a "wtf are nVidia smoking?" jump up in price?

When you start with massively inflated prices, you can look good (to people with goldfish memories) by decreasing the price a little, whilst still being significantly higher priced than was normal 2 gens ago. Even accounting for inflation (which is a couple %, not 30%, btw..)

Maybe they need the extra dollar to help finance their latest $30 billion acquisition.

GTX980 $549
GTX1080 $599 - +60%; +10%
RTX2080 $699 - +17%; +17%
RTX3080 $699 - +30%; +0% (tho the availability has made the card launch price spiked so we will ignore that - if the current retail price of available card to go by you are looking at +20%)

there is your answer. 1080 was always touted as excellent GPU for price vs performance. Ampere has just managed to bring that metric back to parity. but if you want to use current retail prices on old parts that picture is different.

Is this supposed to make me sad? Put me in my place? I couldn't give a flying toss about AMD, their shareholders, Lisa Su, or who she remembers and who she doesn't :p

I don't treat AMD as a friend. They aren't. I treat all corporations as if they were a bunch of ars wholes intent on stealing from me. Because they are.

I'm not going to give AMD more money because of anything Intel have done in the past, or because of some weird idea that AMD "deserve" some help (presumably for not being Intel?)

All of this is an amazingly stupid way to decide what to buy. I don't "support" anybody with my cash. It's just a transaction and I want to get a good deal, nothing more.
