American Truck Simulator

Map some keys for resume and +/- with the cruise control to make it really useful. The +/- default to 5 mph/kph. You can change this in the settings. I put mine to +/- 1 which gives fine control if you miss the limit by one or 2 mph.

Started Saturday, just got to level 11. Have 3 Peterbuilts now, 2 day cabs and a stand up sleeper, with 2 hired drivers slaving away for me. Need to grind a bit now to get some Cash. Had What I think was a breakdown earlier, with red dash lamp next to Parking Brake lamp. Followed some heavy braking with some cars on the Back.... Had to call assistance and lost time so was late... Fined and XP lost... Got overtaken by the Cops on a blind bend, something coming the other way and the Cops swerved into me and I got fined !!!

I had that orange light on my PB day cab also, no idea what it means, kept going on and going off, when it was on I had next to no acceleration power.

I was raging last night, stop to rest on a 15k job, rested and by mistake it the rest key again. Turned up 9 hours late. Then got annoyed ran a red and got caught speeding within 2 miles of my garage.

Got most of the mods from the front page and some from squirrel on now, much nicer.

If it's the orange circular lamp, then it's the retarder lamp. Check your key mappings for retarder increase/decrease and also see if "Automatic retarder" is on under game settings. You can also set the cruise control to use the retarder if you go over your set speed - again, another setting worth checking.

Yes that must be it, I changed my gearbox from the standard Eaton 10 speed to the Eaton 10 speed retarder. I will have a play with the settings later as I don't think I have keys assigned for the retarder yet.

That was it. Default key next to the Lights. Cost me a visit from recovery/repair to get rid of it, and a late delivery penalty, and some dozing at low speed because I went over hours. Lucky I didn't crash it. Oh well lesson learned. Up to level 12 now. 500 HP Peterbilt 579 with 18 speed Eaton Fuller Gearbox with Retarder.

Need to get myself a wheel at a good price. Using Keyboard atm, tried XBOX controller and just cant get on with it.

Stupid number of gears is stupid. I should go manual or use the wheel, but anything like the 13-speed or upward only really makes use of about 5/6 gears with a powerful engine.

Starting to make good money though. :D

In the real world, an experienced driver makes use of block changing to pick the appropriate gear for the conditions. This depends on weight and gradient. A good driver can get 1-2 mpg better economy like this which saves a considerable amount when you are using 150-200 litres of fuel a day on average.

The MP is definitely great - the smaller map makes it very busy and therefore enjoyable for me.

Just be warned that the most people are considerate in MP but there are some real muppets (moreso due to it being a new release). If you might get mad at losing a loads value due to someone ramming you avoid it till you get settled in SP.

Some mental traffic jams due to the small map - seen 60+ trucks at junctions hah

Kenworth W900 is almost here

The iconic Kenworth W900 truck model should be added to the American Truck Simulator line-up in a few short days; it will be a part of the first small game update that we are finishing now.

This is actually the very first truck we have started creating for the game over two years ago, it has been in an almost-finished state for a long time. We were sure that this classic vehicle would be received very positively by our fans. However, unbeknown to us, it did not turn out to be the best choice for the first vehicle to approach Kenworth with during initial licensing discussions. Truck manufacturers tend to be very careful about their image, and Kenworth, as the pioneer in aerodynamics in cabin design with their T680, had a rather different idea of the ideal truck to have in our game at the moment of release. So it was back to work for us to finish the other truck first before we could hope for the licensing deal to be successfully signed.

Meanwhile, we also owe you news concerning the state of Steampunk DLC. We are gifting it now to loyal Steam followers of American Truck Simulator as promised. Our "robot" code has been processing the gifts for a few days already actually, we are however throttled by some technical issues. So far, we have managed to add the DLC to the Steam library of 53,000 players, there is still some 110,000 more DLCs to issue currently. Please have patience with us, the DLC content will automatically appear in your game shortly. As the execution on our side was not as swift as we had hoped, we are not yet limiting your chances to earn the DLC for free. Anybody following the game on Steam until and as of today will still qualify to receive it. You don't have to worry also if your game was a store pre-order and the box is yet to arrive; so long as you follow the game in time, the DLC will be added to it even if you activate the game a week or two from now.

@Wiiispa, I think the chrom ab is just due to my lens or the lens orientation. It does work fine though.

Set beta to Oculus in the beta tab on ATS.
type -oculus in the launch options

That's it.

^Good to hear, the W900 mod I tried had no sound lol
