Yes, I've found that.

Had a horrible drive this evening. nothing big or heavy, just a trailer with some Tesla cars but I had a whole load of AI trying to kill themselves by randomly braking in front of me. I also got hit by cars coming down slip roads and just driving into me. This happened three times, two of them were Police cars! Of course, I got fined for every one and took trailer damage as well.

1. How big is the map?
2. Is there free roam outside of the career mode?
3. How easy is it to set up with VR?

1. It covers Nevada, California, Arizona and (now) New Mexico.

2. Yes, you can drive anywhere you like.

3. I've not done it but I think it's fairly straightforward.

4. Yes.

Without DLC, you won't see it.

IIRC Arizona wasn't ready when the game was so they shipped it later as free DLC. Everything after that is likely to be paid.

I'm about 95% sure they never said that. They had an initial couple of "DLCs" that would be free, which was the first two additional trucks (older-style Peterbuilt and Kenworths) and the state of Arizona. After that, everything was always going to be paid. Same for ETS2, like the Scandi, Going East, France, and (upcoming) Italia DLCs.
