AMG GT R - Der Tag

One of these was stolen off a nearby road last night. No idea why you wouldn’t do at least several of

- keep key in a faraday pouch
- have a tracker on it
- have a steering lock

Especially if it’s kept on the road! Step 1 probably would have avoided this.
Must have heard it as they don’t do quiet

I head off to Macclesfield Mercedes first thing this morning to get my Sat Nav screen fixed, which failed on New Years day and you guessed it......15 minutes into the journey the screen comes on and starts working. The SD card thing was a (brain fart) red herring and now it's all working again. Temperamental electronics and couple of people have said they had the same issues with similar tech in their Mercedes of similar age.

Slippy roads this morning, hooligan all the way back home. Ace.

Since owning the car I have had the following issues:

1: Suspension malfunction (Day 2) - Needed new suspension monitors fitting, 2 x day job, £4500 all done under warranty.
2: Intermittent traction control /stability errors (4 or 5 times since owning) which tend to occur when I am turning in tight spots, so sensors related. I turn off and on and all works again fine, nothing logged.
3: Tyre sensor went off on one, telling me flat tyres etc when all were fine. Only happened once.
4: Sat Nav screen stopped working, all went blank. Backlight, but no picture. Came on again this morning as it became scared as I drove it towards the garage for a telling off.

Only an absolute IDIOT would drive an AMG GTR without an MOT and be so stupid that he only realised when he came to tax it…..for 9 months without an MOT too. Chavs the lot of them with their illegal road cars.

Yours

Idiot

MOT sorted in 2 hours, thanks Fairway Motors Rugeley who also let me get under the car to have a proper nose too.

Will upload a video of said nose.

Guilty as charged the derision fair.

Also the video I was making didn’t work so can’t upload that either. Just a black screen.

Old age doesn't come itself... :D
It’s when you get to 45 that’s when, to quote Highlander, when ‘The Quickening’ starts. Hair on everything but your head, aches and brain fuzz on the stuff you decide doesn’t matter like forums, people in the street and MOT and Tax :eek::cry:

Its why I post about my Scotland trip on one part then post again on another part as if I never did. It’s not showboating I promise, it’s just forgotten stuff you do when you brain fart.

It was all me. I popped the car in for warranty work early on in my ownership and dealer mentioned it as “due soon” and I said leave it for now…followed by forgetting.

When I did get the car done last week I was able to have a proper good look under the car, which was helpful. Car looked mucky and salty but in good shape outside some oil making around the sump bolt, I suspect due to the dealer overfilling it and me telling them to take it out. I will be picking that up next time I speak to them…

When I did my Scotland road trip I did have a MASSIVE crunch when the bottom of the car hit a rock/rise when we had to navigate a small lane. It was a real WTF moment for me and my mate in the passenger side as the noise was horrific so good to see nothing obvious under the car.

Noises like that almost always sound way way worse than they are. I accidentally parked my M5 on top of a tree stump at C&M (totally unsighted due to the slope) and it felt like I'd bent the car in half. In reality there was a slight bit of a mark/scuff under the car which just rubbed off.
Yes I’ve had a few over the years but this one sounded like Thors Hammer. Small children and women across Scotland, baby Jesus went “WTF” and a Dragon from the Den who was behind me said “I’m out”

This is unquestionably the best car I have owned. It is also the fastest and the one with the most road presence, measured by the reaction of other road users and supercar owners too. One of two don't understand it or get it usually because they have been in an AMG GT and been unimpressed by its abilities. One of the gents who joined the road trip was of that mindset and I blew his mind when I took him out in mine as I did with his young son.

The front end on this car is incredible and when the cups are performing as they were in Wales, it just puts all that power down effortlessly and goes like stink. My fried in the RS was amazed how it just vanished from him in most road situations as I didn't have to worry about getting it into the power range to the same extent he did. Love this car, proper beast and full of character like all the best cars.

For 100K, nothing comes close in my eyes.

That Porsche looks incredible in that last picture, couldn't quite make it out on the other photos you posted.

The GTR is still the best looking car i've seen as far as i'm concerned. Just absolute perfection.
Yea the Porsche is gorgeous and owner just took delivery of it. Still a fantastic road car and so well suited for this sort of thing but also tiring and noisy. Owner lived in Kent so came a long way and quite tiring where as my Merc has the ability to waft and just go all quiet in comfort mode. The BIGGEST issue with the GT3 RS, like my old GT3 is no cruise control. On a long M4 run end to end you want cruise.

All the other GT models are worlds apart, completely different dynamics on many levels. The GTR is a GT3 homologation to all intents and purposes.

I feel lots of people have driven a GT C or S and reference that as “oh I’ve driven one” when they really have no idea what the GTR feels like. It is very very different.
