Bit of a pointless sacking. Getting this woeful squad up to 5th/6th at the half way point is impressive.

The squad is mid to lower premier league quality.

To spend £50m + on the likes of Yoro who looks worse every time he plays or £70m on sesko who by all accounts just cannot score goals. Then complain there isn’t any money or backing in January is insanity.

The money, global support and general club size isn't in question - but yes, there are deeply flawed aspects of the club that need to be fixed. I think INEOS are on the right track but they've made a complete bodge of the managerial situation (and the DoF with Ashworth).

I don't want Fletcher. I've never been keen on him, although he was a good player obviously. I think he's just interim for the Burnley game, and perhaps Brighton at the weekend too. As it stands, anyway.

Ole could be interesting and would help stabilise things until the summer. I actually think he did a pretty good job (in hindsight) and it was derailed by Sancho being an idiot and Ronaldo being a bad decision.

You know what, I'd happily give Southgate a go just as an interim. He's dull but he's used to dealing with the kind of drama this club attracts, the press love him and he would settle everything down and just use the players in a logical way. It would be quite interesting.

Southgate would be the best choice, i think people dramatically under estimate his overall ability. Not sure he'd want the job as interim though, unless their was a pathway for the full job.

That's more luck rather than anything else, we've been very poor in the majority of games, even with our best players on the pitch and they are far from bottom of the league quality.

Amorim's selections, tactics and decisions have been widely dissected and universally considered to be poor by pretty much anyone you ask.

Ultimately the club will be thinking if we can get another 10% out of these players, we can get into the Champions League, and that's critical in the eyes of INEOS.

Internet memetards like to laugh at Southgate but he is an effective manager and I'd happily have him at united. There's certainly not legions of outstanding premier league managers I'd pick ahead of him. The current crop of successful managers, Pep, Arteta, Emery ain't moving.

Personal opinion here

Looking at the bookies favourites at the moment...

Glasner - not for me - already having issues with the board at Palace - Likes his Wing backs etc so no change in formation probably

Maresca - not sure on him - Done a decent job for me at Chelsea without being spectacular - nothing jumps out to say he's the man.

Southgate - Don't like the idea of him, fans will hate it, but could be the calming influence needed at United - not particularly exciting but potentially could be good.

Carrick - no chance - far to big a job for him

Emery - would be my choice but hes NEVER leaving Villa at the moment - he's got total control over every aspect of that club and doing a fantastic job.

The rest - who knows.

He’s effective at getting relegated from a PL standpoint. So count me as one of those. I would stop watching if he was manager.

In hindsight (which is always a wonderful thing), that UAE shek guy or whatever that wanted to come in, buy the entire club and literally throw billions at it would have been the complete transformation/reset that UTD needed. Everybody out in the top management, glazers gone, new stadium etc. However it grated with me that we would have effectively been doing a Man city with the possibility of losing our soul, which is why I preferred (without actually knowing anything about him) the notion of a 'local' lad come good, a lifelong fan, putting in substantial personal funds and being notionally passionate about the club. Money issues were always going to come to the fore early on in the process with the ratcliffe option, and ultimately it all comes down to money.

The problem with Southgate is that there is so much meme-age around him and his style of play that if it doesn't work well early on, he'll be hounded out quicker than these foreign managers.

I can't see him going for it. The England job took its toll on him mentally and the pressure at United will be similar, if not worse. At least with England, you only have to deal with it intensely for a short period every couple of years.

I'm pretty sure I saw a poll on it a few years ago with lots of responses and the vast majority wanted him nowhere near the club. That will have included fans of other clubs who voted 'yes'.

Southgate - Defensive, scared of the opposition, fearful of loss due to his England trauma, inept substitutions and tactician. Provides a warm hug though to the players.
Carrick - Coaches players well as you could see the change in pace, play and touch of players at Boro. However sacked as he hit a ceiling.
Ole - Inept either side of Man Utd where he also couldn't win anything with everything at his disposal. 90's Ethos of big players will have their moments, let the players bring their uniquess n shine. Useless tactically in modern football terms. Loves a hug too though.

Now i love a hug... but i have no idea why anyone is floating the idea of these three. It's like going back to your old girlfriend forgetting all the issues or expecting you've both resolved them magically (because nothing indicates any difference in them)... and yes Southgate is the ex to us all.

The latest Talk of the Devils pod has some really good insight on Darren Fletcher. Andy Mitten is a fan but not in a fanboi sense. Very interesting and reassuring at least for the Burnley game
