spoiler:first go to the west tower, go down the trapdoor and look at the strange painting (click on it). Then go to girl suspect's room and look in her lectern. Then go to the dining room and look at the footprints on the rug.

For the thieves guild - ask a beggar in the waterfront about the gray fox or steal lots of things and eventually you'll receive a "Mysterious note".

Dark Brotherhood. Just Kill someone in cold blood. Break into someone's house at night and kill them when no one's looking.

To join the dark brotherhood you must kill someone, then sleep, and someone will visit you and ask you to join. To join the thieves guild, talk to beggars in the dock/waterfront area of the Imperial City. You may need to get a higher disposition (bribing is easy enough) then talk to them about thieves guild/gray fox.

As requested (spoilers): First go the west tower (i think - a tower is mentioned by one of the suspects) and go down through a secret door, and there is a painting, inspect this. Then go to the black womans room (black woman who you questioned) and look in one of her lecturn thingies, and there will be a secret compartment with painting things. Next go to the dining room, and on one corner of the rug the table is on will be some paint/paint footsteps, I forget which. These are the 3 clues (I think) and you can then accuse someone (the black woman) of stealing.

I'm really trying but I can't get into this game.

Two issues I have:

Despite the vastness of the land there are seemingly only three things to find: generic elven ruins, forts and caves. They are layed out differently but all have the same thing.

Also, casting. In order to loose off many spells, I have to press the number for the first spell, cast, press the number for the second spell, cast etc etc.

Am I missing something, tell me there's more to it than this?
 
Man its frustrating am still stuck on finding the painting and thats after reading the spoiler !

I found 2 clues of em on my own even but ive checked in the west tower and nadda....

Ive taken every item and checked thru every chest and sack in the west tower and the ones leading down the hatch and other room (which 2 stories suggestest that location) and still no painting, did a thief get it before I did perhaps?

ive accused the black women and she says not enuff evidence

any ideas.....

I wondered what would happen if you hadn't found the clues. I'd already worked out who it was from the three stories, but I went after the clues as well, even though the "accuse" option already existed.

I managed to lose Shadowmere :(

I left her outside a fort while doing a quest, did a quick scout to make sure the area was clear, and headed in.
About halfway through my 'cleansing' of the fort, I get a message saying "shadowmere is unconscious". I rush back outside, and see shadowmere standing there, but it wouldn't let me mount up. I could walk right through her!
Now she doesn't follow me around anymore

'twas a sad day for humanity . :(
 
help with dark brotherhod quest

THE QUEST where you have to killing the retired captain with the sithis arrow, how do i get him alone without his armour on??

Answer: He goes swimming in a lake thingy in the city at one point during the day, he takes off his armour for that, do it then. But be quick, because he doesnt stay in there long, and try to shoot him from the other side of the lake otherwise you will get his personal guard on you.
 
Answer2: You don't need to use the sithis arrow. When I was following him around, he went into one of the inns and I went and hit sneak in a dark corner on the stairs and hit him with an arrow of northern winds. instant death. Then just go over and take his finger.

I guess not everyone can do this though - you need a reasonable marksman level and equipment.
