An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Look at your skills page (press the tab key, select the health/magika/fatigue bar stats page, then go to the third tab in that), and have a look. The skills in the top section are your Major skills. Each time you increase one of those it puts you closer to levelling. Just keep working away at stuff relating to those is about all I can suggest.
I will do that, I have been doing a lot of sword fighting and sneaking with a bow but not much else.

You level up by working on your major skills. iirc you have to get ten total across any of them to level up. It does mean that you have a slight control on how quickly you level up.

I've gone the route of having my most utilised skills in minor, and ones that are situational in major, so I control as and when I level, plus I can ensure I get maximum multipliers on my attributes when I do :)

Did my first run through the arena, got to warrior rank, and this let me get my blade, restoration, and mysticism (spamming detect life for the heck of it) all up by 7.

Then I upped alchemy by 3 (intelligence), blunt by 3 (strength) and alteration by 3 (willpower) and then I jumped around to up my acrobatics by 1.

This pushed me up to level 3, with +5 modifiers to the 3 attributes I wanted to raise this time, str, int and will.

I will be using this method to balance my skills, so I will eventually have everything at 60, the I will up them all peridocially, making me the uber jack-of-all-trades.

Slow going, but makes for a powerful character :)

Just started, I've found a Remen Rune. If I use it I get a bound suit of armour and sword, but no shield. Should I keep them or revert to save?
Well the effect only lasts for a couple of minutes, so you don't have much choice in keeping them ;). Powerful, so make use of the bound effects while you can. Note that if you change armour/put away the sword while the item is bound, the effect stops.

Well ive finally just had a quick go on it, never played one of these games before, seems to be a bit fps-ish, so i was quite suprised as i was expecting all sorts of complicated stuff lol, i did a bit of the tutorial at the beginning, and it seems straight forward, i just don't have a clue about all the spells and stuff, like what they can be used on, which does what etc... but i rekon ill pick it up, doesn't seem that complicated at all. :)

Was only in the Dungeon/Sewars with the rats, but it looked amazing, seemed to run pretty well to on my x1800 XT 512mb with the HDR on, but im on the 6.4's so i think ill give that chucky patch a go.

Im gona give it a proper go later on though as i only wanted to see what it was like first, looks like i may have a game thats actually worth playing on my PC again though. :D

Heh.. welcome to the world of RPGs. Very soon you'll be able to finely distinguish the differences between a Battlemage and a Knight, or a Thief and a Bard, or even a Barbian and a Warrior.

Spells come over time, Oblivion introduces stuff to you nicely at the start so you're not just plunged in headlong with everything with the expectation of understanding!

There are a few main spells that'll form any spellcasters arsenal:
Fireball, electric bolt, ice blast - Fires a fire/electric/ice bolt at the target to hurt them. Some targets have natural resistances, but you'll get a message telling you they resisted the damage if thats the case, so that you know to switch spells.
Heal self, Heal other - restores health either on yourself or on a target.
Drain **** - Drains **** attribute away, like blade skill (skill with weapons), heavy armor skill etc. etc.
Absorb ****. Same as Drain but transfers it to you.
Summon ****. Summons the named creature to fight for you, different creatures fight in different ways, e.g. skeletons fight with swords, whereas the scamp uses fireballs.

There's a difference between Drain and Damage aswell, Drain is a timed effect (e.g. Drain Health 20pts for 5 secs will take 20pts of health away for a toal of 5 seconds, after which it will be restored) whereas Damage will remove the attribute/skill/stat until restored separately (so Damage Health 20 pts for 5 secs will take away 20 hit points for each of the five seconds it lasts, leaving the target 100pts down at the end).

Think that is accurate, but I'm not really into this nancy casting malarky :p.

Bound spells will give you good bits of armour or a good weapon for a short duration.

Not that complicated ;).

I've installed the horse bag, no physic guards, weather, water and increased landscape detail and all work. Water is a lot better now, as it's clear now and I think reflective also. It was solid colour before. Far off landscape doesn't have blocky look. Does stand Oblivion have rain effect? It was raining.

Thanks for that little tutorial hector, only problem is i cant seem to add my .dds(texture) file keep getting an invalid directory message.
the writer here says something about the texture line getting messed up sometimes.. double check though the .nif for any errors because that's where ithe issue's got to be, i should think.

Last Kronin, i've just had a fiddle about and made a new weapon/skin out of the ebonyblade.. if your still stuck, see trust for my email and send me your nif/dds files and i'll take a look. though say if you send them because i'm not one for checking my email often, only when i'm expecting something.

thing is, in nifscope you do not want to see the texture on the weapon if opened from the meshes/weapon folder, the path to the texture should be set in relation to the data root.. so to test, if you put your .nif in the oblivion/data folder and open it with nifscope from there, it will then display with the texture if it's all linked correctly.. then just move the nif back to the meshes folder and fire up the CS.

Sending right now hector

Edit one of my problems could be i had to extract the files to my E drive as i couldnt send it to my D drive (games), but i created the appropriate folders in the data section of oblivion and transfered the .dds and nif files.
