Hmm looks like im gona have to reinstall then, how do I backup saved games?

I wouldn't have thought you'd have to. You should be able to load a save game after reinstalling the game. Should you feel the need to though they're here -
C:\Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\saves

Sorry if this has already been discussed but i only got Oblivion a day ago, when you install a mod do you have to start a new game or can you continue from a save?

The mods I installed were detailed terrain and Normal map replacement and I could just use my saves as it is only a replacement of textures.

But for other mods I don't know.

The majority of mods work absolutely fine with existing games. Ones that can potentially cause issues should say so in the readme. I think the one that changes the reactions of guards to crimes is one that mentions potential problems.
You're most likely to find issues with mods that affect gameplay - mods for cosmetic changes/textures shouldn't pose any savegame issues :).

good good on to my second question: I hear OBlivion is Dual Core enabled, do you have to tweak something to get it to work, or is it on by default?

PS w00t hit level 4 last night :D

idealy you want one just before so you can change the class, race ect.. although by the time you get one, you could have done it (use the console to save as a unique name i.e. 'save ICPreGateStart' that helps prevent an accidental overwrite). i'm not aiming to be mean, i'd send you one if i had one but it was only last night i had a clearup of saves and i've doing some modding before i start my next game.

backup the .ini before you start as some 'tweaks' aint very good imo, not when they cause bugs.. such as the number of grids loaded causing a bug in the water and people have had to set the water so it's got no alpha, the very same tweak can also cause the jumping bug in which everything thats 'living' jumps up and down. the threads/background settings, though, may be just what your after..

I don't think im ever going to start this game, im to busy wandering around and getting gobsmacked by the graphics, ive got everything maxed 1280x1024 2xAA/16xAF HDR on, only things i left untouched were the item/actor/object fade, just left them to what they were already set to, i ramped the tree fade to the hilt, and its running sweet as a bloody nut, it looks absolutely stunning, ive just been wandering about over the hills and stuff watching deers and allsorts running about, its truly stunning.

I killed a couple of big crabs which i didnt know attacked you :D , i was just standing not far away from em going bloody hell theres even crabs running about, and then they started coming towards me, and im just standing there watching em, i should have realised they were going to attack when the music changed :D , which i have to add is stunning as well.

I also went through this concrete door into some underground chambers, and i got attacked by loads of bandits, what a game.

HELP!!!

I think my game may have a bit of a bug

My mercentile skill hasnt moved since reaching level 19
The experience bar hasnt gone up at all in hours and hours of play, involving no end of buying/selling of goods at reputable traders haggling all that I can etc

I really annoying me as my guess is that with all the stuff Ive done it should be upto level ~25 by now :(

Any ideas?

My flatmate always loses horses. He thinks they turn up at the stables you bought them from eventually. You might want to try looking in the stables?

Lassie ?

lol dunno about a horse going all the way back to the stable, havent lost mine yet perhaps one can put there horsey inside the stables with the others at the city ?

ive left my horsey outside the gates of any city and oddly when ive come back to it its just there same as usual, I dont think your horse needs rest/food/water ?

I think they wander back to the closest stables if you leave em, but if you fast travel to a city they follow you there.

Did you do certain quest that raises that skill? <spoiler>Hackdirt</spoiler>. The idea is that the stat increase you get is only a temporary 'boost' and not a permanent increase. I believe this applies to other similar rewards of skill bonuses.

So you get, say, 5 extra points as a reward, taking you from 14 to 19. Your skill is now in effect 19, but in the background the game is still raising your stat from 14 to 19. So until you actually get those 5 points yourself, you won't actually see the skill increase. It's like a loan; the game gives you 5 points, but you've got to pay them back yourself until you can make any more. At least, I think that's how this 'bug' manifests itself.

Happening to me at the moment aswell, though I waited to complete so I went from 45 to 50 to compensate :)

Missing horse: I know it dounds dumb, but have you tried fast travel? If you leave the critter somewhere, then FT to a town then it is magically transported to the local stable if it is still alive.

Oooh something else

Where/what are the files that I need to copy to back up my savegames/character?

Has anyone experienced problems installing the BTmod v2.2?
The installer says to backup a file (data/menus) but I cant find it

save files:
My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Saves

the backup warning for the btmod, i expect is for people who have extracted the games .bsa archives or are running another mod that used the same files ect.
