An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

Spec-

3800+ Venice
2GB RAM
7800GTX 84.25 drivers
MX518 with drivers installed

Ok, when I play I get lag like im on a Internet game with 300 ping. Its annoying.

I have settings on Ultra High, with HDR on and max resolution on a 17inc tft.

Any help?

EDIT- Just noticed that I still had my old driver folder in my driver folder, just deleted it.

lol. well I'm on ultra, with everything manually up, but on a res of 13x7 in windowed, and yes it hit 1fps *but i tweaked the .ini to make more grass, haha* now I can get about 30fps ish avg outside.

Basically same spec rig, gt ov'ed instead of a gtx.

Can anyone explain why I'm rubbish at fighting (always getting killed) and how I can sort it please. I'm currently a theif type character but also use bow & arrows and short sword, and I'm at to level 4. I've just been through the first oblivion gate and I get killed every time by the demon things (or most other creatures I fight). I haven't managed to kill any yet. I get a few hits with arrows but they charge at me and kill me with about 2 hits :(. How can I improve my blade fighting (blade is a major skill) without loosing out too much on the marksmanship and thief skills?

Im a theif/assasin. Its hard to kill with the sword, you have to gulp potions when fighting and use a shield to rest and gain a little energy (you do zero damage when your green bar is down low) Arrows are easier to kill with, but you have to have room to move and dodge. To balance out leveling, I tend to use arrow for for a couple of marksman points, then switch to blade for a couple. The blade is always harder tho, as you soon run out of potions, you're constantly having to pick flowers and plants, and find fruits to make more. Its also a good idea to increase your magic to u can use the Major Heal spell, as the rejuvinate one isn't that good.

Loving this game so far :) Made my way to the Imperial City to have a look around. Picked up a couple of quests (having trouble tracking down that Fox Thief?) and have advanced in rank at the Arena.

I cant seem to buy healing potions anywhere though  I've checked out all the shops in the market district, unless i'm missing something?

I've found some for sale but they're bloomin' expensive! I assume that you can you make healing potions yourself. What are the required ingredients/tools??

Im not too sure, I dont take much notice tbh, I just collect a load of stuff and make whatever pots they produce.

Why rush a game like this? Im in all the factions (that i have found) and I am working my way up the ranks (completed arena etc) and I am having a blast.

I would hate to complete a game like this in under a week.

I don't feel I rushed it particularly. I had a couple of breaks from the main quest, but I found the storyline engaging and kept returning to do it.

I never bothered finishing the main quest in Morrowind until I played the game through for a second time, so I was determined that I'd not do the same with Oblivion.

I've just played it too much I think. :o

is there any requirement at all in having played the other games in the Elder Scrolls series to play oblivion? I haven't and was wondering if I would miss much?

Where can I get a fireball spell, I need something more powerful now than flare?

Skingrad mage guild specialises in destruction magic. There is a fireball type spell there which does 30pts worth of damage. You have to be a journeyman to cast it though.

IT depends on your alchemy skill but these are the ingredients i've found which have restore health attributes (i'm a journeyman in alchemy so i can see 3 of the potential 4 effects of a ingredient)

aloe vera leaves, boar meat, daedra heart, venison, dragon's toungue, fly aminta cap, lady mantle leaves and sweetcake. There might be others but i've not found them yet.

You basically need a pestle and mortar, but a retort improves the positive effects of ingredients, an alembic reduces the negative effect of ingredients and a calcinator improves the poisoning effect of ingredients. I carry all 4 around with me (they are dotted about in all the mages guilds) just in case...

Ummm could be a spoiler

The village may be part of a quest - go to the neareast town and speak to a certain lizard/kajit woman. I can't remember her name but the village you are in is hackdirt.

Don't plants grow back?
yes blants do grow back but it takes weeks/months in game from what the loading screens say.

i dont think Nirnroot grows back as its a rare plant, and once its picked the there is no hint of it being left behind.

if you pick a plant normally, your just take the cap/flower and your left with the rest of it there as a visual but you can't physically pick from it again.

with Nirnroot the whole thing goes.

if you get my drift?
