An Elder Scrolls: Oblivion thead

I'm going crazy trying to build a balanced character.

Basically I'm trying to create a strong fighter/thief type, so that I can backstab pretty hard but then still be able to defend myself with mobs. Also I wanted to throw in destruction and restoration.

Spec me up! As you can see I basically want to be a jack of all trades, but any build I try has a really low intellegence or willpower, so that the physical side is okay, but I run out of magika pretty fast.

Aghhh I went to jail to complete a quest and now that im released I equip all my Kvatch armour and my defence rating is sttuck on 3! Also it wont let me equip my magic ring "at this time". I slept to see if that made any difference but no-go.

Any reasons why? Its driving me nuts!

Try the god mode cheat ...

LOL an interesting solution!

I think I've nailed it down, thanks to the help of a chacter generator:

A female Nord:

Blade, Block, Sneak, Security, Armourer, Spechcraft, Light Armour

Born under the Thief

Intelligence: 30
Willpower: 40
Personality: 35
Agility: 50
Speed: 50
Strength: 50
Endurance: 45
Luck: 60

As you can see I have thrown away magics, what do you think guys?

Does it need repairing? do you have any conditions or diseases?

lmao what a muppet I am... for some reason it had made all my armour go down to 0 condition and I didnt realsie. Cheers for the wake-up. :D

I just got this and oh my do I feel overhelmed (like with Morrowind). It's like everyone has a mission for me and there are so many bloody choices. Guess I'll have to dig up my open mind from the cupboard again.

Thowing away magic is a bad choice IMO. Magic makes up about a third of the skill set, so having at least some magic is a good choice. Unless of course, your trying to get a better all rounded character by choosing the major skills that you would use the least, but that seems unlikely. Your base willpower is decent so you could use alteration, destruction or restoration. Illusion is very good skill for a theif aswell since it has spells to keep you hidden (invisibility and chameleon) and charm spells.

I found that any stealth type is useless in dungeons due to the distance between you and the mobs. Hence my sneaky assasin thief bit the dust.

I also found that any form of buff/shielding spells are next to useless due to the 30 second duration. I wish they lasted longer - perhaps for higher mana cost.

I went for a warrior monk for my second :D Much better. I sneak, I hand-to-hand at close range and bow or destruction at long range.
Khajiit, warrior monk :)

I'd probably have swapped alteration for restoration or destruction. Although restoration doesn't fix attribute damage such permanent agility damage :(

In addition, a mate who's into RPGs and this sort of thing also has (read the manual!) found that things like low armour weight on your feet helps sneaking etc...

Also the minor skills affect the +1/2/3/4/5 modifier you get on your skills increase at the point of leveling too..

What I'd suggest you do is play for one or two levels as you wish to play and note down the fastest increasing skills and then create a custom character with those skills as your main.

Destruction does seem to be a good choice, though I haven't exactly got a lot of magika. It tends to get used by spaming flare before the mob gets into range, where I finish him off with the sword. Question is, what do I loose in return? I'm thinking armourer as I can increase that naturally over time, whereas from my first bash at the game, I felt I needed more persuasive techniques to actually get some quests off of NPCs.

Destruction would be good because it gives you a major ability from distant. And as you said, as soon as they get into melee range then your blade skill should be decent.

It's true armorer doesn't seem to give you much at lower levels, like at level 25 the only perk you get is your hammers wear less and at 50 you get to repair magical items. However, at level 75 you can repair items to 125%, armour provides more protection and weapons do more damage. At master level, your repair hammers don't break ! So, at higher levels it's definately useful. But getting to that level could take quite some time.

If you have decent illusion skill (50+) then you can get the same rewards as speechcraft but you have a lot of other alternatives. Also, choosing an imperial and using "voice of the emperor" perk could give you the same effect as speechcraft. What i'm getting at is that there are other alternatives to speechcraft which could provide the same effect, but would enable you to get a major skill in another area. I've never been a big speechcraft fan, but I guess it would help a lot if you have low illusion skill or are not a imperial at lower levels...

I can't help but laugh at this game sometimes. This Radiant AI might not be quite right, but at least its funny.

I was running through the Forest, West of Bruma for a quest, when I come across a guy in the woods. I was about to give him an arrow to the back, but then I realised it was a Guard out hunting deer. He was lining up a shot, when this other guard sprints across his path chasing another deer.

Anyway, this arrow smacks him right in the side of the face

He stops, turns around, and he's just got this arrow sticking out the side of his head, it looks just like the joke ones you buy. I half imagined him standing there, and saying in a monty python-esque way, "Ow, that really hurt!"

I was laughing so much I couldn't remember if it was possible to screenshot :D :D

Either way, they proceeded to shoot the hell out of each other. One guy drops, I get myself a nice Silver Bow :p

ROFL, just reading that made me LOL :D

Lol i just had a guard helping in a quest, running around for good hour with an arrow though his shoulder, i couldnt help but burst into laughter every time he spoke to me.

Also just came accross a woman asking if the act of necrophilia cost more gold if your caught than it did in the previous game O>o

I'm getting quite scared by this game.

Did a quest last night for the db and ha dto not kill any guards so i had a nice trail of guards running after me think there was 4-5 and about 6 crabs as well, they were all too slow to catch this assassin :D

I spoke to 'her', but then someone else in the same town mentioned their name and "him sneaking around the graveyard" in the same sentence .
