Evening all.

So, who is going to be getting an iPad? I've just sold my Advent Netbook and saved a small fund so hopefully I can get one on release :)

What is Apple like for product launch availability. I'm hoping to get one from the Apple store in Bluewater if they do a midnight launch or whatever?

I've only owned an iPhone (now HTC Hero) and Mac Mini (sold on..) in the past so looking forward to a shiny gadget for sofa surfing :D

Will probably just get a WiFi only one, as don't see it getting taken out and about much - but will wait until UK pricing in announced.

have the FCC approved it yet?
i wan't one but am struggling to find a practical application for one :/
if i do get one ill just get the 64gb wifi model.

Possibly - the problem is that it's quite a vapid product - The Windows 7 based iTablet from X2 holds more attraction to be but it really does depend on the price point - if it comes in for the wifi model under £200 then I'm quite likely to get one... as Liamalxd said - looks like quite a nice sofa surfing tool.

This is one of the sexiest gadgets coming out this year. However I agree with Liamalxd, where does it fit in?

Already have a laptop and a desktop... Still it doesn't mean I don't want one :D

.

It's an electronic magazine.

Reading, videoes/movies, web browsing.

That's about it, but looks like it does that awesomely well. It is marginally lighter than a standard hard back book with a 10hour battery life.

I'll be waiting to compare it with the MSI android before buying one or the other.

I will be using it to browse internet in lounge/bed/at work/garden. Watching movies at work. Ebook reader, recipe/music in kitchen and then what ever useful apps I find.

I don't want or need the weight/size/short battery life/keyboard/versatility of a netbook or a full os. This is the perfect solution, or another based on the same thing with a smart phone OS.

i cant see why this is more useful than a 13" macbook, least the macbook u can do what you want with. It just seems like a giant iPhone without the phone, I definitely wont be buying one, will be saving for a 15" macbook pro

hmm its a very sexy gadget,
but still apart from reading books and magazines,
can you actually 'work' on it?
or is it just an unusable paperweight?

It's two very different items.

Macbook does everything, heavy, keybaord, jack of all trades if you want.

Ipad is an electronic magazine. Light wait, extremely long battery life and does a few things very well. yes it is like a big Iphone, that's brilliant. That's exactly what most of us who want oner, want. You can't hold a laptop like a book.

Why would you want to work on it? think of it as an electronic magazine.

yeah but i mean it doesn't have MAC OSX its just a similar OS to the iphone, i woulden't want to spend £600 on a magazine :/ lol

It's meant to be about 300.
People get confused at the moment. It is not a computer/laptop or a replacment for one.

A similar is to iPhone is ideal. You won't be multitasking like on a laptop or do extensive office work on one. It is far close to a mp3/mobile DVD player, than a conventional computer.

Totally with you AcidHell2.

Give it a short period of time and most PC/Gaming mags will be available.

I am getting one to browse, email, photos, reading, maps etc

i get you, its still an attractive gadget but i think they did mess up with not putting in an integrated webcam for skype calls. i know you can buy a plugin webcam but its not the same.

im still tempted to get one, and hell who knows you may be able to jailbrake it like the iphone :)

That's just apple, that's why I want to wait and see how the msi android compares. Basicaly identical size and use, but hopefully without the apple crippling service, also hopfully without the extensive jack of all trades like full os tablets.

The geek in me really wants an iPad as it is something shiny. But it's way, way too expensive. It's an horrific price tag for the privilege of having a big iPod Touch. The battery is a great selling point, or so people keep parroting. Based on a lot of the discussion on these forums, many people have said they'd only likely use it at home. It could have just have a 3 hour battery life in that case.

For that kind of money, with the claimed leaps and bounds in design and technology and with an apparantly epic battery life - why can it only do what an iPod Touch can do? The only real selling point in my eyes is its size. That really isn't enough, for me, to justify the price or all the hype its received. The Jesus tablet? Hah. The biggest let-down since Judas.

The crap joke aside, I really wish Apple had offered something more.

EDIT: I did not expect it to be a full-blown computer [imagine that pricetag?] but they could have pushed the capabilities of the OS some more. People did naughty things [in Apple's eyes] to their iPhones to make it do what it was capable of. Be nice if Apple took a hint! :p

it needs to be more than an electronic magazine for £500-£600, this seems very gimmicky and I really cant see it taking off, and most of that will be down to the price tag. Its going to be awful in sunlight just like the iPhone so wont even have the book like capacity that kindle etc have.

Be ideal for me, atm I use my iphone around the place to read news etc, looks at pics, emails. Strains my eyes using it.

I do a bit of astronomy as well and hopefully one of the myriad of apps will be made specifically for the ipad which will make it amazing for looking at the night sky.

When I go down to my folks house using my iphone again is annoying (2G) so not big enough. I think this will be great. Plus I have a lot of books and no more room, being able to buy future publications onto this device will save me room.

But we shall see when it is actually launched.

Nothing gimmicky about it. Just some people at the moment not realising what it is for.

I have wanted one for years. Where the only option has been netbooks/full OS tablets, neither suited my needs.

It will take of.
why does it need to be more than an electronic magazine? That is laptop territory where you need a keyboard to utilise it.

Website Geeky Gadgets claims to have the scoop on a UK price for the Apple iPad. While we can’t verify this, it claims that the bottom end Apple iPad model, with 16GB of storage and Wi-Fi only, will cost £389, while the 32GB model will sill for £439 and the 64GB version will sell for £489.

I want one, the problem I see in this at launch is that, the iPhone is due a refresh in june/july and the iPod touch is due a refresh in Sept.

The iPhone 4G is going to get new shiny features and probally an OS update to 4.

So anything the GS has got now the ipod is likely to get (compass, camera, possibly GPS etc) plus what ever else apple think we need.

This will make the iPad look very dated in a very short space of time. It would have been out roughly 6 months. So it would need a bump before the 'holiday' season.
