According to Engadget's latest article we have some new info on Gingerbread. Seems FroYo will remain on lower end phones but those with 1GHz CPUs and at least a 3.5" screen as well as 512MB RAM should be inline for the update.
At least I'm certain the Desire will last the 24 months I'm on contract for then
