Am I doing something wrong here, I was doing the first scenario and found an 'Orient' island and started to mine the iron, since I needed coal to smelt the iron I bought some and brought it over to the island and stuck it in the warehouse. Now it just seems to be sitting there and it's not being used to smelt the iron.

I set the pirate things to "strong" when making the game as well; so they keep destroying my trade ships constantly now - grrrr.

You can request "auxilliary fleets" (warships) from northburgh and al vizier in exchange for honour which deal with the corsairs pretty well

i've been playing the demo a bit and have now bought the game (should arrive today or tomorrow). one thing I couldn't work out (in the demo) was how to get my houses to upgrade to the patrician stage - they all needed entertainment (a tavern) but i didn't have the option available to build it? is it population limited? i guess the tool maker guy is quite important to get up and running asap as you need them a fair bit.

Yeah if you're up to the level where you need more buildings unlocking to advance your population if you hover over the greyed out buildings it will tell you what population you need, so maybe the tavern needs 700 citizens/patricians (can't remember) then over on the left hand side above the minimap there is an overall population number, click on that and to the right of the minimap you'll have the breakdown of the numbers of the classes, you can then see how many say citizens you have. If you need more, build more houses.
These will be peasants, let the game run for a little while and you should either be able to upgrade your citizens houses etc. to the higher tier which expands the numbers and should unlock the greyed out buildings.

How do you stop auto ascension?

Click on the marketplace you'll see the tiers of population. Click on the scroll at the top, you'll see a rotating scroll over the marketplace after that, this will stop them auto upgrading. When building are able to be upgraded now there will be an arrow above the houses. You can choose which to advance :) I always have auto ascension disabled now so I can build up from the middle outwards

Hey peeps

Just a quick question. Is there a way to manually transfer goods from your warehouse to a building that needs them? For example, last night in the campaign mode, I came across one of my toolmaker's which wasn't producing any tools because it didn't have any iron to make them with. After checking the market building, there was over 50 tons of iron stocked up in there, but the toolmaker wasn't using any of it. I tried dragging iron from the warehouse to the toolmaker but it doesn't do anything. Is there any way to make them use things that are piled away in the warehouse as it is just sitting there otherwise?

Also, is it best to only have one type of building attached to a specific resource farm? So only have one rope maker situated near a hemp farm, instead of adding a weaver there too? Is that the most efficient way or can multiple factories function from a single resource gatherer? I don't seem to have much luck in getting it to work with multiples but I may be doing something wrong.

I just started the second campaign mission and the first thing im instructed to do is a build a new marketplace to north of Falconstone. But no matter where i seem to build it the mission doesn't continue as though i havent done what's instructed.

I think as a rule of thumb 2 plantions supply 1 factory, so if you keep buildings together in that ratio then this will minimize the number of trips to the warehouse. The actual type of factory (weaver or rope) prob doesnt matter... so you could have 4 hemp farms with 1 weavers hut and 1 rope thingy next to them, and they'll all be working near 100%.

Your Toolmaker's workshop has to have a warehouse and an Iron smelter within it's radius. Click on the Toolmaker's workshop and you'll see it's radius area in a big circle, if you don't have a warehouse and an Iron smelter in that radius I don't think it'll produce any tools. Likewise, your Iron smelter has to have a warehouse and an Ore mine in it's radius, so click on the Iron smelter to check it's range. I tend to find that building them all within very close proximity of each other is best (using a market building, rather than the docks warehouse). See this screenshot below:

You'll notice the Ore mine on the left, and the warehouse, Iron smelter and Toolmaker's workshop all bunched up to provide to each other (there's also a Stonemason's hut there as I have a Stone mine close by).

I've got a Rope maker and a Linin garment maker within very close proximity of each other and 3 hemp farms. They do work well together, I just need to make sure I'm producing enough hemp to satisfy the demands of both buildings, and that all 3 hemp farms are within the radius of both the Rope maker and Linen garment maker. I don't produce Rope as a trade good therefore don't sell it on and just keep what I need and produce it when I need it (at the moment at least), so this setup works well for me since I just keep a healthy stock of Rope and when I've used some I'll start production of Rope again, which will reduce the amount of Linen goods I make, but once I have a healthy stock again I just stop production at the Rope makers.

Guess wit it disabled it makes you able to have lower class areas and all that and make it like a real old city? :D

Hey flibby, thanks for the reply. The warehouse was right next to the toolmaker, but it wasn't getting supplies from there for some reason. I'll have a proper look when I'm back at home later.

Has anyone got far in the Orient second scenario? I'v met the goals of 6k envoys and the sultan mosque but i'm a bit stuck as how to get the sultan quests. I'v played with the game sped up for a few hour sand nothing, i'm guessing i need to meet something just to get him to give me the damn quests!

Just gona go for 10k envoys at that seems the next goal, but theres not enoguh room on my island! agghh

Well, migration of my entire settlement over to another island seems to be going OK. It was tricky, because I had to transfer all my resources from my main island to the other, while keeping the main population happy. Don't want to demolish my current cathedral, but there's no point in keeping it if there's no-one there, besides to look pretty. Currently have 17,000 cash coming in, and about 15,000 going out, with 8 islands owned. I have a cathedral building on the new island, but it's only halfway built because I don't have 2500 noblemen yet. It's just a matter of waiting.

How do you find out what is being traded and all that I cant remember where it was.

If you want to find out what stuff is getting traded about in your ships then click the trading icon in the bottom right corner that looks like a star and it'll bring up your trading routes. If you want to find out what it going in/out from a warehouse, select the warehouse and click on the tab "Trading place" on the left side of the window that appears at the bottom right of the screen.

Also I can't believe how fast some of you are at creating a civilisation :) I've spent about 15 hours playtime so far and I've got small populations on 2 islands (one is Orient) with a total population of both combined at 802. I've just spent about 3 - 4 hours working out the trade routes, such as getting one ship to pick up 15t of Carpets from Warehouse A, deliver 7t of Carpets to Warehouse B then pick up 12t of Spices from Warehouse B and take them to Warehouse C, then go to Warehouse D (computer owned) and sell the remaining carpets. I've got about 5 trading routes like that so far and I've just about balanced the thing, other than 2 items which I use on a "floater" ship to hover around and pick up excess.

I just picked up a +10% speed boost upgrade for one of the trading ships, and another +20% speed boost for another, so likely I'll be spending another couple of hours making sure that they are still okay on their routes due to the speed increases :)

Although some of you have like 10,000+ population cities, I either suck or I'm ridicously slow :P
