ANNO 1404

It ended up saying the route was inefficient.

With income I was down to -150 and down to about 10,000 cash and around 650 houses, I was making tools, hemp, cider, rope, mining stone and all that just I could not figure out how to get my income back to +.

Certainly could not afford to put stone down on all my paths too!!

See if your current houses are full, click on any of your market places. On the bottom left of the window that pops up there is a second tab, but it might be a good idea to deny accension rights to better control your population, you can do that from the first tab, at the very top click the scroll. Moving onto the second tab, this shows a bar chart of the number people and their classes currently in your settlemen. If you hold your mouse over one of the bars, for example citizens, it will show you a fraction like 189/240. Shows that you still have space left to fill.

To fill this space you have to change the tax level, click on a house belonging to the class you would like to change the tax level for, citizens in this example. Theres 5 different levels of tax, these bars shift along depending on how your settlers needs are fullfilled. You want to move your tax level to light green, this makes your settlement more appealing to the citizens and makes them start to move in and fill up your empty house spaces.

Quick rundown of how each tax level effects your settlers:

Level 1, Dark Green - Settlers move in and wish to accend to the next level if all their needs are fulfilled.
Level 2, Light Green - Settlers move in but dont want to accend.
Level 3, Yellow - Settlers dont move in but they dont move out.
Level 4, Orange - Settlers move out :'(.
Level 5, Red - Settlers go on a witch hunt and try to kick your face in.

Also a note on advancing to quickly, say you have your settlement up to the citizen level, everyones needs are met and your houses are full, your taxing them at level 3 and making a nice profit. Your ready to upgrade to patricians. Now if you just let everyone advance right away you will be stuck with aload of patricians whos needs are not met and are not paying as much taxes as the citizens. So upgrade one or two houses just to unlock the first few buildings the next level needs. This way you can go off and build them, in this case its wheat, mill and bakery for bread. Once you have this setup then you build more patricians houses to unlock the next set of buildings. With the bread they are alightly more happy and willing to pay more taxes, less of a problem on your wallet.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but just to state that as keen as I am on getting this, no way will I spend my money on this DRM.

Out of curiosity I've just spent some time on the UBISOFT technical support page, and the FAQ is enough to give you kittens!

Everything from deactiviting the UAC to completely disabling the firewall are some of the options given on registration problems.

I don't even want to run the slight risk of bumping into one of those problems, even if I'm desperate to buy the game.

I'll get it sooner or later, but with the general public responses outcry it'll only be a matter of weeks until the whole thing lands in the bargain bins anyway.

If I set trading in the warehouse the only way it goes is them selling to me and me loosing money as I'm getting useless hemp as I have enough but have it set in warehouse trying to sell it not buy :s

I did what you said Nieldo and my income is going between -10 and +10 at the moment. Trying to find an island for spices as it appears they want spices.

Cant find the scroll for changing ascension rights too. And where is northbro and the sultan guy? So I just have to keep telling the ship to do to these islands and drag and drop my resources to them? I don't have much money left, 12,000 so I'll be screwed if I cant get it up quickly!!

When setting items at warehouse for sale/buying .. + = buy, - = sell.

Visiting CPU ships can then sell you the + items and will buy the - items form you :D

How much different is 1404 from 1707? I just purchased 1707 (very cheaply) for playing on my laptop and I'm gripped with this game. So is 1404 much better, bigger or is it simply more polished eye-candy?

Is there any way to change the text size of the games font? It's so bloody small I can barely read it, having to squint at times.

i'll wager this game doesnt end up in the bargain bins because a) its a keeper and worth the cash b) Tages/DRM stops it being re-sold ;)

yes the DRM sucks , its old news and everyone and their cat knows about it, but those who wont purchase as a result of that are missing out on the best Anno game yet ...

Fire away between us all I'm sure we know most things about the game :)

Actually, where can I get bonuses from? I started a new game the other day with a strong bonus in my warehouse that extended the range of churches/chapels by 10%. Are there bonuses to extend marketplaces and market building range? I've seen some that increase strength of troops and I've had a few that increase production of certain plants.

You can buy them from traders warehouse's, also I've had a couple from quests such as I got +10% sailing speed item for my ship from a "transfer the nun to the warehouse" quest.

Aye I can get the things like cargo capacity, speed, increased sight, but there are apparently some really good island bonuses you can get, i've got the production ones but can't find the more powerful ones :(

Anyone ? How Do I get spices, I am on a colony where I can cultivate spices but no idea how to make a spice plantation.

Not sure which type of game you're playing, but on my continous play game there's two guys. One is the Emporer guy, and the another is Oriental. I had to buy a "Splendid gift for a guest" which looks like a few scrolls stacked on top of each other from the Emporer guy, then take it to the Oriental guy and he shows you how to build Oriental buildings - one of which is the Spice Farm. You then go populate a desert island with the new Oriental buildings, and just build up a second settlement building Spice, Date, Indigo (etc.) plants/farms.

Loving it so far .. Played a lot of 1701 so had a good idea of the game but 1404 is so much of a bigger step up . The amount of stuff extra is amazing .

Finding it hard to balance the game .. was on a good + with 60k in the bank and now 10k and in a - lol
Also seem to have an issue where Pioneers wont upgrade . The have everything they need and set to dark green but they just sit there and do squat .

Three quarters of my city are Patricians but 2 rows of houses just wont upgrade and totaly stumped on why not .

Was also stumped by the "find random people in your city " but thats been cleared up in an earlier post " .

My biggest issue atm is to make the patriacians happy and earn me more £££ but cant afford to make bread/leather etc . Given i need to do salt as well and also start another island . Im sure i will work it out but causing me real issues atm :P
