Love this game :) if an AI colonises an island, can you establish a warehouse at the other end? or are you blocked alltogether.

ALso I am stuck on the attainments, not entirely sure what they all mean, so far I have figured out I need the attainments to increase the social level of items and goods I can buy from the AIs.

Do people when they establish a presence on a new island build loads of warehouses to cover the entire island then go from there with the buildings or do you expand in phases?

IN 1701 I used to build warehouses all over a new island, but in 1404 it seems less effective that way. ALso the supply chains in 1404 are great :) so much more detailed than 1701, this is a reason to get it over 1701.

I started a new continuous game, medium settings with 3 medium AIs. Managed to snag mysself some decent islands at the start.

On my main island I just expand as normal, dont bother with putting warehouses all over it, it usually fills up pretty fast anyway.

On the first island I made a beeline for I put about 4 warehouses up just to make sure I reserved the space, its going to be my bread and beer factory.

Then I settled a desert island, I dont like the way you need to make buildings for nomads, they are a totally different culture, why would they want to come and live on your island. Anyway at least you dont need to progress them past nomads to unlock all the orient factorys.

Ive noticed grapes fertility on some islands, I took my people to noblemen stage on my last easy game before starting this one, I didnt see any requirements for grapes.

well my CE box just arrived, ordered it late yesterday afternoon , installing ...

the chest is actually really good, smells of old wood and leather ! compass is v heavy for its size with metal engraved inlays ... now lets hope the game is as good !

I'd like this game, but as I'm planning to get Win7 when released, will have to wait so not to use up one of the 3 installs limits.

Can't you work around that problem if you have more then one harddrive/partition and install the game(s) on another part then the OS, and after doing a new install of Win7 in October just make a new shortcut to the game? Wouldn't that work and you would still have access to all your saved games and still have 2 more installations left? Obviously it would depend if you can change your destination drive during the installation of the game, which only the people that has installed it already can tell us?

Love this game. It's taken me hours and hours to get even to copper mines!!!

I'm pretty certain I've got it nailed on Easy up till the third or fourth level, positive cash flow, 4 islands, now I'm in the process of moving all my plantations to separate islands, transporting them back to the main island where the manufacturers will use the goods being brought. I'll have some decent sized warships patrolling the shipping lanes for protection, although I have been paying the corsairs recently.

I haven't used grapes myself, but I do know that as you satisfy their needs, Noblemen and Envoys gain new ones, in exchange for much increased cashflow. When I got to Noblemen I was at about -200 cashflow (with 100K cash :D and building 2 monuments). After satisfying just a couple of their "additional needs" (coffee, fur coats), my cashflow went up to over +1300.

Most likely the grapes are one of the additional needs for the Noblemen or Envoys later on.

It is annoying when corsairs manage to kill some trading ships though. I noticed that they ONLY spawn at their island, yet I set some warships to patrol outside their island, and they still managed to destroy some trading ships. Is there any way to get warships to guard trading ships? I know you can make them follow, but they don't attack until the trading ships are weak. Unless I set two warships to every trader (expensive ), the corsair ship always destroys the trader first.

Theres a setting for the warships I think, aggressive and defencive, default is defencive so maybe if you switch it to agro it will attack them as soon as they come in range of your ship, not tried it so it might not work.

Bah, I'm one of those people that always wants to have the island set up perfectly and I always get annoyed when it looks wrong

So far have re-started a game twice because my harbour area did not look as "cool" as I wanted it :/
