ANNO 1404

I have bought the game and I'm very happy with it. I have it running on Windows 7 RC and when W7 final is available to buy I will then have to install it on that. As that is change in OS it will mean a second install of the game and so only one more remaining before I would need to contact UBI, to then extend the number of installs possible. I have avoided putting it on my laptop to avoid "wasting" an install.

Within the English speaking fourms of Anno there are a couple of posts from a person who has spent quite a lot of money on phone calls to UBI to try and get more installations of the game and I do not think that it has been resolved as yet for them as they have not posted back in a while.

I can only find a 09 premium number (30p per minute) to contact UBI support on. I just hope that I do not need to call them regarding activation and if I do I would like an alternative to the premium rate number to ring.

I would have thought about using email but IIRC you have to phone them to ask for further reactivations.

Below is a snippet taken from the forum that I noted...

Another day passes and no problem solved.

I even screenshot the entire process see they could so im doing nothing wrong.

They have no clue what to do at all, instead of giving me unlimited activasion so this **** stops, but nooo. now i wonder how long its gonna take to get them to fix this.

total of 20mins on phone today alone, 0.80x20 its wow? 16 euros? i think i just paid 66 euros for a game thats not working.

Can i get those 16 euros refunded at least? anyone?
the above person suggested in another post that they had been on the phone for 45mins in another call, if I understood what was posted correctly.

A post from UBI in that forum, posted previous to the above...

Sorry, I am not from the Tech Support Team. So if the Tages instructions do not help you, you will need to address Ubisoft Customer Support.
I am very sorry I can't do more for you.

Apart from the abysmal manual and potential for problems with the activation the game is superb :)

I was reading on the forum Ubi have stated that after the 3 activations, you can simply contact them and get more activations :) this one piece of information is what prompted me to buy it, I hate DRM still and the first chance I get to remove it I will, in the meantime I am fairly satisfied that I can continue to play it even if I run out of the initial 3 activations.

How many games have you ever needed to install more than 3 times anyway?

Do you really need to do the campaign? Does it unlock things or something? I'm mainly just interested in building cities and making it all work.

All of the games I own, I've upgraded OS's three times in the last 6 months, XP 32bit > Vista 64bit > Windows 7 64 bit, fourth time will be when Windows 7 is released.

Add to that the two rebuilds I've done with different hardware in the last 6 months also.

I just jumped into a custom medium settings continuous game - but mainly because having played previous Anno games I roughly know what is going on

For people that don't know I suggest campaign mode first to learn a bit about how things are done

You do realise that if before you reinstall Windows, you uninstall the game and it will give you back the activation that you used on that installation? So the 3-install limit won't really be an issue.

I was concerned about the DRM on this too but after thinking about it, for such a great game it really isn't a major concern at all, especially since all you need to do is uninstall the game before reinstalling your OS and you're set. I can't imagine why anyone would need to be using 3 activations within a short space of time unless they're either exceptionally crap at installing and maintaining Windows, or are very unlucky with their PC.

It really is a beautiful game and I don't think that the DRM should be a show stopper for anyone.
