Aye but I make most money from npcs buying items at my warehouses, something the Arks don't do.

They do, I produce weapons purely to passive sell to the Ark people's trading ships.

Well even without a proper npc player you still have the random arks sitting around begging for your stuff.

I reached proper endgame last night. Got all 3 factions fully happy and maxed out. Now I guess I just sit back and do many many hours of research :(

Research? Do you mean ingame? Or numbers crunching outside game?

Hey guys,

Looking at getting this, as the demo was pretty good.

Are you guys running the Steam version?

Anno can be had for £18, cant really afford the £35 on steam :s

Oh I'm refering to the ingame research done by the techs. Theres stacks of the stuff and atm the only ones I found handy are the island storage expansion, and the windmill reduced radius. Beyond that the rest seams like a long time per research :/ Even with the voting perks.

What is a world event?

Well todays is the first one. Its a chain of missions based on something bad by the looks of it. This one has pirates threatening to nuke the world. The first quest is easy and worth like 1 point. The second is harder and worth more. Theres 3 quests in the chain progressively more difficult as they go along and worth more points. The points go in to a global 'pool' of everyone doing these quests and when they reach certain markers everyone who took part gains career points towards every faction it seams. Or maybe you chose the faction at the time.
For those who dont know, Career points are used to unlock faction specific rewards, like the factions colour, avatar, buffs, and eventually the factions unique Ark.

Sounds very cool!

Shame this game is getting so little media attention at the moment. Seems like a bad time to release it tbh.

Will definitely pick it up in due course.

Well to be fair I dont think I ever recall Anno 1404 being advertised. Then again that could just as likely be because I was playing it instead of watching tv :p
1404 and the whole anno series never seamed commercially popular in the English speaking world for some reason, but everyone in Germany knows them very well! (I have german relatives who can confirm this :p) I'm hoping though that steam will boost things a bit despite A. Not having a steam forum for it and B. no one being able to play it on steam for 2 days after release date.

Just bought it for £19 with an official DL link and the key was delivered within 5 minutes. All works a treat :)

I thoroughly enjoyed playing the 1404 game, along with the addon. I was amazed at how sophisticated some of the mods were, albeit derived from a German forum. The game certainly seems to be very popular and supported over there.

I'm still slightly confused about the DRM, different sources tell me different things. I always play single-player, and I've mainly been told these two versions:

1) One-time online activation after installation, and that's it.
2) Online log-in each time you run the game, although after that an internet connection is not required during actual play.

Could anyone please clarify?

Well as far as I can tell, you activate it and set up an account on install, then when you launch the game you have ubisofts launcher which you need to connect to. Ingame you seam to have access to single player if theres no net connection but with limits. You cant access any of the items on your ark if you lose your net connection or the ubisoft servers die like the other night.

Pretty sure its 2),
I just disabled my wireless then started the game, seemed to work ok, though I had to press cancel a couple of times.
Its worth noting though that being online actually adds a little something to 1 player, with occasional special challenges available for 1 player, faction and economy statistics for the whole player base etc. Certainly not essential but they seem to be trying to offer some features with it.
