**Announcing the Overclockers UK Racing Championship**

Bricking it now, I'm so excited. Watching YouTube clips is just making things worse.

I haven't done much track driving other than Vxr events and I did the open wheelers at Silverstone. I keep saying I'll do more but never get around to it. I feel a New Year Resolution coming on...

There has been ideas to organise an OcUK track day! We have done a few dyno days before.

We've done OcUK trackdays in the past, albeit bring your own car.

Gibbo tends to organise a few a year, advertised in the Motors forum. 9 times out of 10 it ends up being Donington :p

Now i think about it, i did know this..... but I am comparatively new compared to him :P

I just googled it now, my journeys gonna be 167 miles and 3hr 31mins duration, each way.

Along the M4 to Swindon then up through Oxford onto Bedford.

Anyone else wanna post their distance/times out of interest?

EDIT:- So am I right in thinking we've got 7 competitors now, rather than 6 as before?

I've booked in a hotel tonight, didn't fancy the 105 miles @ 2.5hrs to get there for 7:30.

I wanted to enjoy the day fully and I'm not a big fan of early early starts(4:30 is early early). I've even got the father in law as my +1 to chauffeur me in his Merc :). We will be wafting down the M6 later when it's quietened down...

Edit: I don't have a car to do track days, it's bad form to black tape across the number plate on lease cars after all...I really don't have the bottle to do that. Had a trackday toy mx5 with a mate a while back but it was a bag of nails and failed its mot. Not something I have the free time to do all that regularly to be honest, so buying experiences using someone else's car makes more sense at the moment. Maybe when the kids are older.

You sound like you'll be competitive Rich :)

I think I'm a bit too laid back, tomorrow is a massive prize for me, I think my head would explode if I got past this round to the grand final. Even better, don't get through, and then qualify for Bedford in the next 2 sessions, 3 Palmersports days in a year, suit you sir! That would be epic lol.

Oh, I thought that once you got into the track day eliminations, you couldn't have another crack at it.

I hope I'm wrong, would take the pressure off tomorrow slightly. :D

As far as being competitive is concerned, it'll all depend on nailing a fast lap on what will be a cold day on an unfamiliar track.

With a second or so between us all in the vr stage, it's safe to assume we can all drive fairly rapidly so it's gonna be a close call.

Just hope it doesn't rain in the middle of the timed runs.

How would they work that one out? haha.

Well safely home, and I have to say a huge thanks to the overclockers team and Palmersports. Best experience day I've ever attended, no words to describe how brutal the cars are, but the adrenaline buzz is insane.

I was totally shocked to win, I only came 3rd in the overall points for the day, I really had some shockers in the other cars, but I nailed a lap in the F3000 to get a place in the top 3.

Congrats to the other finalists, and commiserations to those who didn't make the cut, particularly Lewis, as I said to you many times today, you did really well considering you'd never driven a rear wheel drive car before to be driver of the day. It's a shame you had a bit of a mare in the F3000.

I really can't wait to find out what OCUK have planned for July. I need to lie down now...for sure!

Just got home myself, what a thoroughly enjoyable day, making 3rd in the F3000s was a surprise, as I really didn't feel that any single lap went that well.

Can't thank OcUK enough, and a big congrats to Born2BSlow for an awesome F3000 lap and a well deserved win!

As above, commiserations to the 3 who missed out on the final, but go have another crack at the whip!

Was pleased to make 2nd overall for the entire day though.

What a day, what an amazing experience which I will never forget.

Massive congratulations to the top 3 who get to race it out in July :-D

The highlight of my day was definitely the Ariel Atom as I felt connected to the car after a couple of laps and give me the confidence to push to the max. It made me laugh at the end of the session as the driving instructor said I completely s*** him up in the first few laps and also he was majorly impressed with my fastest lap.

I was glad I got to spend the day with a great set of lads and can not forget the staff at OCuk who were very friendly and welcoming throughout the day.

As for my F3000 lap, well lets just say I couldn't seem to get the rhythm on the track as I had two major spins and my concentration did not seem as responsive as earlier in the day. I was a bit gutted on my last flying lap as the car was stuck in fifth gear and had to retire to the pits.

Finally, this track day has been a massive learning curve for myself as the quickest thing I have previously driven was my remapped 1.9 tdi Seat Ibiza lol. From a young age of around 3 years, I have always dreamed of driving a race car but never had the chance until Saturday. I feel privileged and humbled to have had the chance for my dreams to become real and also complemented on my lap times on the track. I will definitely keep an eye out for when the bookings become available in Jan-Mar in the VR room as I want to see you 3 lads in the final.

Anyway a massive thank you to overclockers for this competition!!! I hope I have not bored anyone to tears with my waffling above! ha

The real training starts now!

Lewis M

Sorry Lewis, I got your name wrong in my post...I've corrected it now. Don't take it personally, I have a horrible memory. If I was a PC I'd be all RAM, GPU soundcard and processor with a tiny HDD...

Hopefully see you again in July.

Edit: Having watched my lap a few times I can't believe I won, it wasn't very good, shifting way too early before the lights even came on...

Anybody else looked at Financing options on an Ariel Atom yet lol

Having watched my onboard footage, I can only assume it wasn't my fastest, as I left the track!

If that was my fastest then there's a good 4-5 seconds of improvement!

Not looked at financing an Atom, but have looked into attending another Palmersport day before the Grand Finale!

My fastest lap was 1:21 with overtakes. My faster laps were around 1:16 but they got dis-qualified as I went beyond track limits on the last chicane before straight, kept taking too much curb. I did not know this until after the event, I was like would have being nice if the instructor in the JP-LM's had told me this when I was doing it in those.

They said why you taking so much curb, I was like because it means I get higher top speed, they checked, yes you have the highest top speed of anyone, haha. :D

Still the fun factor is beyond anything in those cars, they are epic, F3000 and Caterhams are the best drives. :)

I've been thinking about another Palmersports day too. I have a limited company, so was going to find out about the pricing for corporate days and whether there is a cheaper per head way of doing it. Idea was to book a day, pay through my company then each driver will have to pay me back through my company. Would anybody be interested if I can line something up? I have some takers at work, I expect the more drivers I can get the cheaper it would be.

I'm glad you all had fun, and it was great to meet you all.

Congrats to our winners :) Those who did not make it through to the grand final, will be able to go through the VR rounds again (and maybe even PalmerSport), however be warned, there will most likely be more competition next time round.

How was the christmas party Hal? ;)

You missed the best part of the day, the afternoon cars were insane. I've actually already e-mailed Ariel to get the Atom pricing and options...sadly 14 months lead time! I can see why it's so popular though. The sequential box adds £22k to the price, so I think I would have to stick to the manual.
