Ultra is fine you will find it boosts the vcore on extreme.

PLL over voltage will be fine on auto I think. As I said 1.328 is fine OC voltage for a 2500K just stability test it for a few hours to make sure and you're all set.
 
Out of curiosity if a CPU asks for a given voltage at a certain frequency, can this change as the CPU ages?
 
Of course. The best way however is offset so when it clocks down on speedstep it also incrementally reduces the voltage, saves wear and tear on the cpu and also heat production. Say your VID at 46x was 1.25v and this was set to an offset of +.05v at 46x (4600MHz) thus having a vcore of 1.3v at 4600MHz, when it clocks to 1600MHz on idle, say the VID was 1.000v, it'll be 1.05v instead, still a lot less.

Can get BSOD's on idle when its fine underload, just need to play with the voltages and get the balance right
 
One more question, how do you know if they CPU is going to request a ridiculous voltage at say 4.5ghz? Do you just have to go up a bit at a time and into bios to avoid this eventuality?
 
I read a post on another forum somewhere that said about upping the ratio to 42 and then booting the board so it would set the VID to something nearer what you are aiming for, then from that going upto 45.

So yeah, pretty much what you said :p

If left on auto, you'll see how much. You can use coretemp or cpu-z etc... to find out the present voltage.

But potentially the damage could be done by then if you boot at 45x multi and it's pumping 1.5v through the chip? I haven't tried it myself yet, I just want to be clear before I do.
 
Possibly, but i doubt such a short term increase would do any damage. Also haven't met any chips that req. over 1.45v for 4.5-4.6GHz.

You wont need anywhere near that much mate, im currently on 4.5ghz on 1.328 as i was BSOD - 1E Code all the time >.< still playing with it but at 1.328 is giving me 32-40 max on idle and never really over 60 full whack really, but i have got a massive cooler >.<
 
You will eventually kill your CPU with that voltage, it just might take a bit of time. If you want to keep that CPU for any length of time then keep it under 1.4v
