**ANOTHER DEAL OF THE CENTURY - THIS TIME ITS ATI's TURN!**

What do people think? Can these 5850's be flashed to 5870's? Wondering whether they are basically b grade 5870s to begin with, looking at the cooler and that. Or am I just being daft?

It might be a specific region, or just a get all the 5850's inventory gone exercise rather than a 'proper' model. That's why I was asking what was 'extreme' about these cards as they are stock speeds which is rather odd.

Yes definitely a worthwhile upgrade and aslong as you've got a reasonable overclock on your cpu then I can't forsee any bottlenecking.
Thanks for the response, it certainly is tempting at that price if only to get DX11 capabilities. I have my QX6700 running stock, but I am not entirely adverse to overclocking it. I am considering replacing the rest of the system when Intel release their 8 core workstation CPUs, which won't be for a while, so this will tide me over until then :)

I wonder whether these are put together using overstock 5850 parts and 5870 coolers, or other combination of misc parts. Not an issue obviously, but just curious as to the history. :)

This could well be the case, I couldn't find the 'extreme' 5850 listed on the Sapphire website and to me the cooler looks like the same one being used on the 6850, perhaps someone from OC could shed some light...

Hiya guys, how much of an upgrade would either of these cards be to a 512mb ATI 5770??

Does the 5830 kill it (bearing in mind I only paid £60 new for the 5770).

Quite tempted to upgrade to the 5850 from an 8800GTS 512 at this offer price...

My biggest concerns are whether this Sapphire DX11 card is going to have long term performance for games coming out over the next couple of years or so, plus the unknown of whether it will be able to run Rfactor2 at maximum detail upon eventual release (hopefully this year).

My Pny 8800GTS 512 has done a great job for three years and its only now that the odd game I play struggles, such as F1 2010 and NFS: Shift, it has had the best longivity of any gaming graphics card I've had over the last eleven years of having a gaming PC. If I did upgrade, I could donate the 8800 to my better half as an upgrade for her (hmm, that's if the Asrock Dual Sata 2 has a PCI-E slot) from a 7800GT AGP
