Another gaming laptop advice thread!

Don't bother with 4k on either a single 970/980m GPU.

Re g sync you can cap fps for either in nvidia inspector so would save your money there also. Most monitors allow for over clocking too. My Y500 for instance ran happily at 100hz, 60 being native.

I would get the 980m as even this card does not allow for ultra in games like project cars but high.

Not yet mate. I know it's either going to be the P35x or the G72. Just trying to decide whether it's worth the extra outlay for the new models.

In exactly the same boat, I will say though the MSI looks better than the Gigabyte and the steelseries keyboard might swing it for me.

Yeah I ideally want a bigger screen and the keyboard are definite plus points. The G72 would be bought elsewhere though were it's a little bit cheaper :)

Do you know what the display connections are?

3K output / Matrix Display
Matrix display features up to 3 external displays, allowing you to output to 3 displays simultaneously using HDMI 1.4, mini Display-Port 1.2 and VGA port. Users can work with multi-task at the same time. (Overall 4 monitors include notebook's monitor on GT series).

But the specs say..

- HDMI Port(s): 1(v1.4)
- mini Display port(s): 2(v1.2)

I am hoping the specs are right and I don't see a vga port on the pics?

Maybe Loki or someone who owns this laptop can confirm?

I was, it was giving me the options I wanted for external display connections, I was also considering the Alienware 13/15 with the Graphics Adapter.

I was just checking the specs one last time on the MSI site of the GT72 when I noticed a link to the GS30 shadow, which is a 13" laptop with a external graphics dock which I wasn't aware MSI did. This has put the cat amongst the pigeons and now I have to decide which way to go.

I wish I had just bought the GT72 and not seen the GS30!

Ruled out the GS30 in my head, I plan to use the laptop connected to 3 monitors in my study and a projector in my living room with no discrete GFX card in the laptop this is not ideal, I don't want to be carrying the external adapter between the 2 locations!

Hi Voicon

The GT72 has the following

HDMI Port(s): 1(v1.4)
mini Display port(s): 2(v1.2)

Hope that helps
