I've been saying it for a while but Israel is slowly building its own demise. Right now no one is strong enough to challenge it but times are changing the Muslim world is going through a major upheaval when it is done the countries or country around Israel will be strong enough to rival it.

In every conflict, people on the outside pick a side. You've chosen yours. Personally I support Israel. That's not to say I don't criticise Israel because I do, but I'm not getting into that now. We all know what's going on out there on both sides of the conflict. The heart of this issue is religion. Both sides believe they have god on their side and both sides are intractable toward each other. The actual ordinary people in Palestine and Israel, for the most part, just want peace. It's the fundamentalist leaders on both sides that are the problem in my view. The subtle difference in the whole equation is that the USA funds Israel, and Iran funds Hamas. It's a cold war by proxy, with the victims being ordinary Palestinian and Israeli people.

I would argue that it's not just about religion, nor is religion the primary driver for the conflict.

I know. They get funding from Iran in order to acquire and fire their missiles, so technically, blame Iran. Hamas just want to keep the pot boiling, so every once in a while they strike out knowing that Israel will hit back hard. They do this because they know they will score more points in the propaganda war.

It also has something to do with the Israelis invading the west bank and "arresting" 400 people, while killing a few women and children because three hitchikers had been killed... Yes that was a terrible thing but how about the word overkill...?

I get the feeling Israel is using it all as an excuse to exterminate a load more Hamas members (and Palestinians if need be) in retaliation for Palestine bring recognised by the UN recently.

Perhaps the west should provide Hamas with guided missiles so they can actually strike back with accuracy. I'm sure they would be happy to be able to aim the missiles at Israeli military installations or the homes of senior military members...

The Jews had a sovereign claim to a homeland which was sanctioned by the UN and the allies following WW2. Had the Arabs not immediately attacked them in the first place, we might well not see the mayhem we see today. The Arabs made the first move of aggression.

The mayhem was caused by simply picking some country and taking part of it away from them. The Germans did that, and we got involved in a world war to stop them simply taking bits of land that didn't belong to them, yet we were happy to do the same to some arabs we didn't care about on a piece of land we didn't care about.

I don't know if I think the Palestinians are right, but overall they are a people that were completely illegally invaded, had their land taken from them, and they've been oppressed completely ever since. But because the UN, and the US/UK were involved... we just pretend like it wasn't entirely the wrong thing to do and continue to basically support Israel.

So what if Iran supports Hamas? why cant someone support palestine.. why is it ok for terrorist USA to support another terrorist nation (israel) and no one blinks but it is not ok for Iran to support Hamas?

This is the issue, everyone fights their side based on history, such a wasted perspective. We are today in a position, you have a free reign, how would you fix it?

Remove the illegal (under UN law) settlers from Palestinian land as per the 1967 boundaries, with some modification to bring it closer to the the 1948 boundary to join the sections up.

Israel (and its allies -the US) give up any disagreement with Palestine being allowed to join the UN as an independent nation state and remove their armies from the Palestinian land, while giving back any land stolen by settlers to the Palestinians that lived there (that includes the Palestinian parts of Jerusalem).

In return Hamas recognise the boundary and stop attacking Israel, which tbh recently has mostly been in retaliation for Israeli incursions.

That'll never happen unfortunately, especially with the fundamentalist leaders the Israelis keep voting in, the current one being one of the most fundimental for a while!
