Another Round of Price Increases ?

will bookmark it and see how we are in january.

My figures only work if we do go to 1.1 as forecast though

Anfd there are other external factors as well. If AMD say launched a card faster than 1080 for less than £300 then clearly the 1070 would drop in price to below £300 ;)

Were still running a crazy cheap deal on an FE card!

I'm really torn between the Zotac FE with 5yrs warranty or the Palit Gamerock with it's better cooler but only 2yrs warranty....

I was planning ordering today but can't decide

The longer warranty and upgrade the cooler yourself :D

Anyway, it's all riding on AMD again now. If the 490 pulls through Nvidia will be forced to lower prices. Which is why it's worth waiting.

Hmmm..I am likely going to purchase a 1070 in the next day or so but unsure of whether to take up this deal on the zotac FE or go for the AMP edition.

Obviously the aftermarket cards have factory overclocks, but am I right in thinking that these cards can all achieve around the same overclocks? (Give or take the sillicon lottery variation). So could all theoretically run around the same speeds?

There is of course the aftermarket cooling solutions to take into account. I'm not too fussed over a bit of noise but I wouldn't want thermal throttling to take the pee..

Edit: Re: the 490 above...how soon is this expected? Don't mind waiting a short time but there's always something round the corner we could be waiting for :p

I for one have not bought anything new since price hikes.

This will continue. It's a shame most people don't have the self control and give in to "blah blah blah the pound has devalued so we are going to make you the consumer suffer, not us the provider".

They already markup 100%, what is a few percent? I know this because I have seen the wholesale prices.

hahahbahbahahahahaha 100% hahahaahahahahah.

Only 100%, were making closer to 200% now, thats why our profit matches our turnover.

Oh wait, LOL!!!!

Gfx cards have never been 100% markup...............

I think Sam is having trouble transitioning from wccftech comments where you can say any old crap, and a company forum where the company's head honcho might drop by to call you out.

Yeah, I don't know what margins are on discrete graphics cards to the decimal point, but I'm pretty sure it's not 100% markup. :D

Well about 3 weeks ago Zotac Amp 1070's were being sold for about £380 on marketplaces, ebay, ******, here as well, I think?

So brands play into it as well as currency fluctuations.

Sam I understand where you are coming from, but sadly your facts are a bit off.

I have done the same too not buying anything for my personal use till prices settle and really kinda lucky at the moment as I don't need to update anything so can wait it out and see how it goes. The simple truth is if you don't "NEED" it don't buy it and if it is all about "WANT" then the answer is again simple don't buy ( I know it is hard as we all enjoy this hobby and hobbies are always expensive when you push for the top).

I'm kinda mad at Nvidia as their prices are stupid right now for basically mid range chips. I feel sorry for the retailers but also getting upset with them with their price gouging too in some cases.

So really perfect time now to just buy what you NEED only and wait for the bigger updates or go second hand.

I've heard brilliant things about overclockers' customer service and while the obvious that yeah if you go through some dodgy 3rd party person you could get something cheaper but you miss out on the protection and clout having bought from a retailer carries.

This gbp/USD/ Euro free for all is having a massive impact on everything let alone entertainment goods.

You're doing an admirable job.

Still it makes buying things an uncertainty, miss out now and the same thing could be 20% in 4 months.

Who says VEGA will be any less odd price wise by the time it comes out?

I have a friend who used to work for Abit. He said they stopped making graphics cards because the profit on them was tiny and not worth it for a company that made more money off other things. It was quite a few years ago now though. The ones making the real money are Nvidia and AMD, not the people in the middle.

Fiji wasn't cheap and Vega won't be cheap either, AMD are sat watching Nvidia pricing and rubbing there greedy little mitts together, If a Vega card beats a 1080 it'll be reflected in the price, It's a simple as that.

In the past OCUK commented they made about £20-30 per card I doubt its much more nowadays perhaps closer to £75-100 on the high end £650-700 GPUs.

Think about if for a moment though if the profit margin was that good Nvidia-AMD would just only sell directly to the public ;) otherwise you would get GPU only stockbrokers!!

Have you seen the price rise on the Samsung 850 Evo 250Gb SSD???

The Palit is crap, we sold a lot of them as the deal was good but the return rate on those cards is through the roof. Hence why we no longer promote it.

gibbo is this just for the 1070 card or is it the same for the 1060 dual fan versions as well?

I have a 1060 dual and now I'm worried lol

Well the 80 series from AMD seems a step up in price from their previous 80 series the 380, which sold for £155 ish. So yeah I'm presuming them go maximum squeeze route with their 1070 equivalent. Except I may not have the patience to wait 3 months for that to drop in price. But part of me really doesn't like Nvidia's close source practices and is thinking of getting an RX 470 as a mild step up from a 750ti.

Or get a 1070 now instead of waiting for Vega.

Nah, I haven't entered the foray of SSD's yet.

AMD will want to undercut the 1070 to grab more market share, just like the 480 undercut the 970. 970 was way more expensive until the 480 was released. Nvidia had no choice but to price match :)
