Another Round of Price Increases ?

Someone remind me again why the fluctuating pound doesn't seem to affect the cost of tvs or gaming consoles. Not long bought an Xbox One S, primarily for the 4K Blu-Ray player but have been pleasantly surprised by how good games look on my UHD telly. Needless to say it cost a lot less than my 980Ti and will keep its value better. I may just have turned to the dark side. The cost of maintaining a decent Pc gaming platform is becoming prohibitive, it will kill gaming on the Pc eventually.

This.

Also, it's annoying that PC games seem to be an after thought - Mafia III being the latest one.

Higher margin products + many retailers of electronic appliances like that have contingency plans/hedges for currency fluctuations. However it has already been advised that if you want to buy electronics, do it this side of Christmas as if the exchange rate stays this way, most things will go up.

"Many retailers plan ahead for currency fluctuations by buying in bulk months ahead, or by locking in currency exchange rates for a defined period of time. However, many of these “hedges” will run out at the end of the year, according to Claer Barrett, the personal finance editor at the Financial Times. This will make it more expensive for British retailers to import goods, and it will therefore push up the price for British consumers. All this means the January sales might not be as generous as they were a year ago."

Holy crap $1.22 yesterday happened so bloody fast in 2016! I expected it to drop that low until after UK leave Europe in 2019.

We are in uncharted territory now since US dollars/Pounds exchange rate records began in 1791 when £1 was worth $4.55.

https://www.measuringworth.com/exchangepound/

Wished we live in alternative reality in 1864 Bioshock style when £1 was worth $9.97 so my MSI GTX 1070 would cost £38.01 excluded VAT, £7.60 20% VAT, total £45.61.

Every time it starts to creep back up, someone seems to announce something which causes it to drop. Especially that Carney bloke, he must be buying sterling or something at the moment :P

It's all a bit ridiculous. Before we joined the EU the pound was stronger and the UK was considered a cheap place to live compared to most of Europe. They said that cost of living in Europe would drop to match the UK eventually, but actually it went the other way!

Glad a bought the components for a new pc three months ago. Spent about £2000 to £3000 with most of it imported. I suspect that would all cost me £300 more now.

Doubt it. If it stays this low another day or so, I expect 10% increases pretty much across the board on ocuk especially with fast moving items.

We are getting to the point now in which dollar and GBP prices after VAT will reach parity. I reckon we could even see GBP prices higher than the dollar MSRP soon as well :(

You're happy that the pound in your pocket is worth less? Or happy for some other reasons?

Hey he could be paid his salary fixed in dollars. There are a few people on this forum who have now had 15% to 20% pay rises in the last few months,

Televisions and the like are already stocked by the retailers, so they would have bought them from the manufacturer when the pound was higher.

That's why sometimes you buy a TV and it's got a manufacturing date of 6 months ago.

Our company gets paid in Dollars so its great for us.
But sadly my wages are still in £s so Im screwed the same as everyone else buying PC parts.

and the pound value is dropping because? nothing has changed at the moment until article 50 has went through.....it's all a scam I tell you :)

Exactly. Nothing physically happens until 2 years after the triggering of Article 50. It's just the currency market traders etc get their nickers in a twist whenever something is merely hinted at in any media outlet

Will OC be able to hold off price surge for much longer?

I am afraid not, all fresh stock landed on EVGA, new EVGA prices are no win effect as previous stock was based of 1.30-1.35, all stock is now based on 1.18 and everything else up.

Only a few graphics cards are on weekly offer, otherwise pretty much every is now up.

Better to sell less than make money then to sell loads and lose money.

My advice if your on the hunt for a new VGA cards, have a look around as some places may not have taken re-buy cost into acount and still have older lower priced stock, grab it whilst its available.

But right now all our best 10 series deal are now on KFA2. :)
