Another RTX GPU Moan Thread

The ideal solution from the consumer perspective would’ve been for them to produce a 2080ti raster only card, with the RTX being a Titan style card.

From a development perspective this would make poor business sense though, so I understand why they bundled the highest performance raster with the RTX feature set only.

Agree completely. What surprises me is just how people are not welcoming the new tech, something which is seem by many to be a holly grail of graphics (and very difficult to do), seemingly failing to even care whether it will be improve moving ahead. It's like "oh, this is it, it's rubbish". The game is even bug ridden anyway even with RT aside, and is not fully released yet either. The main problem is still the price imo, that's the source of everyone wanting to pull it apart. They want it to be rubbish. Which, considering the forums we're posting on, surprises me :).

I really kind of am hoping now that NV focuses on getting DLSS into a game where even the 2070 will blow away all of Pascal at 4K - just to shut people up a bit :).
I ran the benchmark for FFXV again and do honestly feel that DLSS has the better IQ. Might be placebo but overall, I felt it was better and gave me a 50% uplift in performance over normal 4K, which is pretty fantastic. Deffo like to see more DLSS

Lol probably browsing the web for a new 2080 ti:D

Lol.

Where you at? @easyrider :p

Nice :)

DLSS will come in handy for me in the future being a 4K gamer. Hopefully it takes off and improves, as some demo's were not as good as native 4K from when I last looked.

It's the price point that is generating all the hate, that coupled with the fact that not one of the extra features was available at release for such an expensive item.

It would have been better had nVidia released the 2080ti at the 2080 price point but with the Tensor cores either missing or disabled and made the 2080ti into a Titan at the current price point.

I don't think it's hating the tech as such, certainly not how I feel. It's predominantly the price points it's launched at. I.e. the significant price increase from last generation to this generation.

I feel it was too early. The size of the die alone shows this. It would have been better waiting until 7nm where the size and yields could allow a lower cost to the consumer.

If it had launched at a similar price point to previous generation (i.e. within a $30-$50 increase perhaps) it would have avoided a lot of the backlash.

See, I get that completely and I think you're right. I totally understand why people are frustrated with the price point and poor launch.

But it seems as though 'some' people are projecting that justified anger on to two other things:

1. The tech itself.

2. The people who actually bought the new cards.

With regards to the tech itself, calling RT dead on arrival and useless for this generations is simply untrue.

I'm sitting here running a brand new AAA title at 1440p ultra at 70fps, even without DLSS and future optimisations. If that's dead on arrival, then I really don't know what some people were expecting.

And for those people who are trying to imply that if you bought an RTX card, then you're an idiot who should now instantly regret your purchase, even though those of us who did clearly aren't... Well they're being even more daft.

But anyway, you're right. I think that in general the price and poor launch are colouring people's opinions.

That did make me chuckle :D

Im out an about guys...:) I appreciate how much you have missed me though..It means a lot. And truthfully I do appreciate that you care about my opinions. And are quite flattered I even have a video for easyrider posted for me.

Cheers guys :)

The video though does have some issues....I'll post these when I get back to my computer later.

Lol.

Where you at? @easyrider :p

.

just spotted this post...awww bless :)

Well, you bought on a 'promise' from the leather clad one. I'm pretty sure that not legally binding. Just got to suck it down my friend!

I think all the hate is rooted in the inflated prices. If pricing was good and at what was expected then the bashing of RT performance and the lack of games supporting the tech wouldn't be focused on.

I think the same. What is the point of the other rtx cards, you need the 2080ti to run rtx at a massive performance hit. Its just not worth it for any 20 series cards. Unless reflections float your little tug.

I’m just frustrated that NVidia have enough of a customer base that will seemingly pay anything for the top mainstream card regardless of it’s affect on the market or the performance compared to the last gen.

I think NVidia could have pitched the 2080ti at £2k and wouldn’t have lost many buyers.

Very sad.
