another week, another ebay thread - but this is a good one!

Sadly you were probably to slow.

He'll be fine. If there's a direct debit set up, then he just has to cancel it.

If there is no direct debit, then he's fine. They can't just charge your card.

This is why they pester you to "complete" your account details, as one of those steps is allowing them access to your bank account via direct debit, which makes it easy for them to take money as they see fit (as will be outlined in their direct debit agreement).

Without this, they can't do anything.

This is what I'm hoping.

If he has, and has no cards linked to the account, he should be ok, as to take money from a bank account they need to use direct debit, which can a) be cancelled, and b) is covered by the direct debit guarantee.

That's exactly how it works. He will definitely be okay, they can't charge his card as he isn't making a purchase or has authorised them to do so.

Don't forget those nasty threatening letters!! :p

I just laugh at them now. I've had them a few times when I've had to abandon a PayPal account because of a dodgy buyer.

My stance is that if PayPal or eBay want to so readily refund people, then they can refund them.

Cancel it, if there is an active DD set up, they can still take the money - you should be able to get it back, but it's a hassle, much easier to stop them taking it in the first place

additional, OP, have you no comeback for the 'missing part' through your postal courier, as ebay seem to be 'CERTAIN' that someone has went wrong in the delivery, surely that is your angle?

OP, you say you have sold £70000 worth of stuff on ebay, is this the first bad selling incident you have had?

£70,000 since 2002 (buying and selling). I'm terrible at buying gadgets I want but don't need, before selling them to raise money for the next one  Think I have a problem to be honest (How else do you think Gibbo afforded that Porsche)

That said, I have been through a fair few get rich quick schemes over the years like my dell laptop caddies :D that was a few grand profit

I have had a few nasties (like someone trying to steal a mobile phone from me)...http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18595637&highlight=startername_glen8

...but that shouldn't mean I should accept it

No, you shouldn't have to accept it.

-edit, what is there to gain for the monkey who is saying the part isn't there?
Does he claim to return the monitor then it never arrives?

I have no idea to be honest, my thinking is that he just doesn't want the monitor anymore? There is simply no way it's gone missing.

It was there, I checked and double checked, photographed it, the box was taped up like a good 'un. Samsungs boxes don't open at the sides, the are top/bottom so it couldn't have fallen out either.

So currently how do things stand?

Have ebay told you to refund the buyer?
Will they attempt to force a refund?
What happens to the monitor in the meantime?
Is he meant to ship it back to you?
