Antec Kuhler 920 quick review.

OK, just ran real temp. It seems I have a 10 degree difference in core temps  Probably due to me messing up the install and not getting the cooler on first time properly. It's remount time!

Looking at getting this cooler for my new build I am putting together. The website says that the pipes are 13 inches long but they don't look it in your photos. Below is a pick on my current setup and ideally I want the radiator and fans to be located where the top 120mm fans are in the picture. I am however worried that the pipes might not be long enough to fit. What do you guys think? Please excuse the mess of cables, hopefully will get it much tidier for the new build.

That's a long stretch. I don't think the tubes will reach. Also keep the TRUE.

My only worry about the TRUE is, as can be seen in the photo, the push/pull blows out the back directly against the case wall where sadly it doesn't seem to get drawn away.

Temps aren't too bad on my o/c'd Q6600 atm though. Idle temps between 26 and 35 on the 4 cores.

Can't you turn the TRUE around so that it's blowing upwards?

So have you sorted it?

Not yet... I reapplied paste but it's still got a 10 degree difference in temps! seems a bit odd.. It's a shame as the temps on the odd one out core are MUCH cooler lol.

Maybe one core isn't doing as much work due to system tasks? (The temps at idle are virtually the same).

As for the liquid temps, maybe your case just has better airflow than mine?

Really sorry to hijack your thread Stulid, just really like the idea of the 920. My reasons for wanting something like this are so that there is more free room across the top of the mainboard and also a cooling solution that actively removes the heat from the case (i.e. the fans actively suck the air out).

Now I have had the side of the case off and measured the distance roughly from where the cpu sits to the bottom of the 120mm fan and it is about 8 inches. Bearing in mind that a radiator and a second fan would bring it so that it is almost directly above the cpu, I would estimate that 8 inches would be the maximum length.

The website says that the tubes are 13 inches long, but I would be grateful if one of you 920 owners could perhaps measure it for me please?

Here is a slightly clearer picture:

Re. the TRUE, I am not sure if turning it through 90° would work as it might interfere with the ram boards. The other thing is that I have dug the box out and it is a pre-1155 model with only a 775 and AM2 bracket. The instructions make no reference to 1155 whatsoever.

My other alternative is to go down a full w/c route as this is literally acres (ok gross exaggeration ;) )of room.

lol.

What I see your problem being here, is that you need somewhere to attach a 120mm fan to the case, and I don't see anywhere? Are those 80mm's at the top? You might need to get creative with mounting the rad, modifying the case to fit it OR just carry on using what you have now and rotate the TRUE so it's blowing upwards.

Lol. Sadly very reluctant to bin it as it is a large 23bay server cabinet and just so easy to work on. Kinda part of my furniture too as it has my XBox and Synology nas on top of it :)

Now I don't own the 920 so this is all speculation...

I share Scougar's thoughts about those top fans not being 120mm (when compared to the fans on the TRUE), but maybe it's an optical illusion due to the positioning and the thickness.
Also, to me it doesn't look like there is enough space around those top fans to fit the 920 rad even if they are 120mm fans. The top and bottom (going by Stuilds pictures) show that the rad is longer in that direction than 120mm.

Buy one second hand, cut the tubes and extend them yourself? Or if you're really brave just buy new and mod it!

Don't the Corsair units come with longer tubes the more expensive they get too? Maybe worth a look.

The tubes are 33cm in length from my measurements.

OK struggling to get my hands on a bolt through kit for my TRUE Black. An OcUK competitor has them supposedly coming in next week. Thinking about just going for the AK 920 but one question I haven't asked here is, how noisy is it? I have 2 x Noctua NF-P12s that I could pull off the TRUE if the stock fans are a bit noisy.

To those who said I should just stick with the TRUE, for what reason? Does it actually do a better job than the 920? Are the AK ones as good as or better than the Corsair ones of similar design?

Thanks again guys :)

Yeah this had me a bit concerned so I have taken some measurements. There is about 1.8cm clearance between the top of the fan and the case. They are definitely 120x120mm though as I have measured them.

Could the rad be mounted horizontally if there isn't enough room vertically?

I have seen it mounted horizontally, and I cant see anything in the instructions saying you shouldn't.
