Any opinions on o2 broadband?

They are currently undergoing quite a substantial upgrade program to attempt to ease congestion in the worst hit areas. Or so I have heard anyway.

Plus, see my thread about o2 being slow recently ( EDIT, just noticed you have posted in that :) ).

There was an outage causing huge hassles in the NW a day or so ago, I believe some cables were accidentally cut through somewhere.

This caused a fair amount of slowdown and the Scottish network was apparently routed through the same location so it had an effect on us up North of the border too.

Check the o2 forums and ADSLGuide boards - same thing being reported there by many.

have U got a link to the o2 forums? can only find dontbethere forum & thats made of chocolate..

Haven't read much of the big thread at the o2 forums, but looks from the last 2 pages to be a pretty widespread slowdown. I normally manage a download speed of between 600-700kBps, at the moment, speedtest has me at more like 50kBps. Hopefully it'll be sorted soon. It's been a while since I had to deal with buffering on Youtube and iPlayer!

So is there any difference with Be internet and O2?
I know they are the same company, but are they running off the same equiptment?

Im with Be at the mo with the £17.50 per month package and considering switching to the O2 £14.68 package.
They seem to be exactly the same.

As far as i know they run off the same servers, the infrastructure is the same

I'm considering abandoning BE altogether at the moment as my connection is suffering greatly with there latency issues, i ping a minimum of 100ms to everything which is ridiculous

They seeem to be taking a sodding long time to fix it too

Yes it's very slow tonight 5meg down to 1meg, it started for me about 5:50pm and pings are getting near to 200ms.

There's no news from O2, but have confirmed to phone callers they are aware of the slowdown tonight which looks to be quite widespread.

Guys, some folk are reporting their speeds are slowly getting back to normal.

Well, all of a sudden as I was browsing the web, speeds appeared to increase as far as page loading times go.

So I did a speedtest and it's improved by a fair amount, although not back to what it was previously :-

Mind you, it did the same last night and was back to being slow as a dog today, so I'll wait and see.

I'm about to switch off my router and see what I resync at, then carry out another speedtest.

However, some folk who were not previously affected by the speed drops are now saying they are and those who have been having speed issues all day are saying its getting back to normal for them.

Prostitutes knickers, anyone?. :p

Im getting the same.
100ms everywhere and general internet use has slowed down.

To be fair though I have not really had a problem with the service till now.

Mines working as normal again now, just don't know for how long.

People are reporting it's working in fits and starts.

Just FYI

When i tried to leave BE a few weeks ago they offered me there BePro package restricted to 16Mb instead of 24 (i couldnt reach 24 anyway) for 12.50 instead of the 21.50 i was paying before. Might be worth ringing up and seeing if they will offer you a good deal anyway?

Sync speed:

Uptime: 0 days, 1:04:49
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 2,156 / 16,369

Havnt had any issues since (my sister turned the router on and off for some stupid reason an hour ago)

Anyone else find the BE support on the forums is incredibly different to get a simple reply

And the support on there members area is like ringing a BT callcenter "unplug it and plug it in again" "check the connections on the modem" :/
