Any problems with this build (apart from cost)?

Hi guys, got around 2k to spend and got something like this in mind. I have a 24" monitor, but nothing else.

I'm not sure which extra cables etc I need with the case, put the psu extender in just to help with cable management, but not sure if it's necessary.

Apart from that any issues?
Cheers.

Just a couple of things ive noticed:

1. Do you really need win 7 professional? Also i think most people recommend the retail version of win 7 as you can reinstall it on the same pc if you format whilst you will struggle with the oem (or so i think i've read)
2. No need for the retail version of the CPU as you are getting a cooler so you can save £10 unless you are after the extended warranty
3. Why PowerDVD?
4. Why the antec 1200? You could get away with a smaller better looking case as you are not really putting much in there. One of the fractal design cases might be a better choice but it is down to personal taste.

Whatever you pick it will be a nice pc, enjoy :D

1. No probably not, I think I just instinctively went for it as I have win xp and vista pro rather than home. I looked up the differences and decided I'll probs go home premium retail instead.

2. The price difference was only a tenner for an extended warranty, also when I was deciding Assassins Creed 2 came free, although it doesnt seem to anymore... doh.

3. I have power DVD on my old PC and really like it- just a preference.

4. Erm well I'm prepared to go for an 800D cos it looks awesome, but heard it isn't great for air cooling. I want the space for x-fire in future, and just to give my hands more room to build in as Im a bit of a klutz.

4 things I would change is Case = Haf 932, CPU cooler = Corsair H50, Keyboard = Logitech G15 or Roccat Velo, And mouse = Roccat Kone, otherwise that will be a nice build!

I have my Q9550 overclocked to 3.9ghz with a H50, And on prime I max out at 55c... Both fans are uprated though. Surely you would need a full water setup for past 4ghz?

And the Haf can be made to look good if needed. And a big plus is the cooling / practical side of this case is hard to beat especially in the price range.

Change the PSU to the Antec 850W PSU specific for the 1200.
Change the HDD's to 2 WD Black Caviar Sata 6gb/s 1tb.
Change Windows 7 to retail home premium.
Change the Motherboard to the UD3R.
Change the Graphics card to the Asus 5870 (Can actually be overclocked)
Change the Processor to the 920
Change the RAM to Patriot Viper Low latency
Change the ketboard to something a bit nicer :)
Change the DVD-RW to a Sony 24x

Should amke it a bit cheaper as well and better :D

Yeah I think Case is the thing I've had the most trouble deciding about. I think the Noctua cools better than the H50 according to the reviews I've read. Is there any need for the thermal paste or will the one that comes with it be as good?

Are the Antec PSUs any good?

The F3s are cheaper and almost as good.

Change Windows 7 to retail home premium.
Already done.

Change the Motherboard to the UD3R.
I went with the UD5 for the extra OC power- will the 3R be fine?

Wasn't gonna OC the gcard, but will think about it.

Change the Processor to the 920
930 OCs better, but Im tempted by the £30 saving.

Change the RAM to Patriot Viper Low latency
wont fit with the Noctua

Change the ketboard to something a bit nicer :)
I have a logitech keyboard already on this PC and like it- gaming keyboards always feel a bit crappy to me.

Change the DVD-RW to a Sony 24x
Ok.

Most these reviews dont stick good fans on the H50, I'm using 2 Scythe Kaze Jyuni 1900RPM on a fan controller and it seems to work really well. But im sure the Noctua will do the job aswell ;)

There's a lot more transistors in a i7 chip=more heat(ignoring things like modern efficient power use)

And I did say past 4ghz, why have you stopped at 3.9ghz? Cooling not good enough?:p

Yes the Antec PSU's are great and have a hreat rpice tage because they are alrger than normal and have 2 pcb board instead of a small compact one. Thats why its for 1200 only.

Here is some RAM that si cheaper and better than the Corsair RAM http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-071-KS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1389

You should definately get the WD BC currently the fastest and best HDD's available and it will actually use Sata 3 :O

The UD3R is fine for overclocking the i7 to 4.00GHZ++ The 930 only has an extra x1 multiplier big woop... is that really worth an extra 40 pound.

I did go to 4.2ghz with no problems and the H50 handled it fine. But i'm not a confident overclocker so wanted to stay within my limits and not damage the cpu for the sake of little performance gain. I thought the i7 chips ran pretty cool due to there size being a lot bigger than the Q series etc?

Dude Q series chips are like invincible you could keep it at 4.2GHZ without worrying... There tough cookies. The i7 like said previously has more components etc... so more heat.

They are made using a smaller manufacturing process/node.

So you can say they pack more transistors per mm2.

Not sure about physical size, I just know they have more transistors, a lot more.
