anyone do their food shopping online?

Just used Ocado for the first time, due to a 20 pound voucher that came with an Amazon order.

Why haven't I done this before?! Excellent service from start to finish, saves fighting through the masses at Tesco on a Saturday, no substitutions, friendly and communicative delivery driver...all in all, perfect. If you haven't shopped for food online before, try it. It's so pleasant!

PS I have a 15 pounds off your first order voucher if anyone's interested. Nothing in it for me.

Just ordered a Tesco delivery as I had ecoupons but I'll probably use Ocado next time. I have a £15 off voucher as well. I think they're pretty much everywhere lol.

Yeah, I use tesco online a lot. Still use the local farm shop occasionally too, trouble is whenever I go in there, I invariably come out £50 poorer, it's the cheese! they do this really awesome unpasteurised stuff, tastes amazing but on average £5 for a small block, £10+ for a biggish piece! I'm eating some now, Lincolnshire Poacher, it goes great with a glass of Merlot! Am I waffling again?:o

Whats the deal with Ocado ? They seem a lot more expensive than say asda or tesco?
Ive also got a £15 off voucher so that will absorb the price hikes, i guess ill just try them :)

Ocado reportedly being better than the others is rubbish tbh, it's just snobbery. I've found tescos meats to be superior and cheaper, that's why I use them! I don't mind paying extra for superior food products especially good meats, eggs, butter and cheese, but Ocado charge extra for similar, but often much poorer quality.

Done it once or twice. But I don't do big shops so not worth it. However I'm going to try veg and meat box scheme in September and see how it goes.

I'm just giving one of their veg boxes a go this week as a one off to see what the quality is like :) It's a shame they don't do a small (2-person) box with fruit and veg AND potatoes, but never mind.

I wasn't talking about the food quality personally (which I've found to be very good with Ocado by the way, never any mouldy stuff or early use-bys which I've had with Tesco online), I was talking primarily about the service, which was markedly better than Grotesco, mainly in terms of the quality of the delivery driver. He was very eloquent and friendly. We had a call from the delivery driver asking if he could arrive early and he explained the bag colour coding. There were no substitutions, missing items or breakages.

We had some lovely fresh breaded cod last night, apparently hand-prepared by their fishmonger :p. I've never had anything as good from Tesco's fish counter. They seem to try to add value for customers through things like recycling, sustainable sources, and portraying a personal service. Some people like that I guess.

He just gave the impression of being very competent. I'd use Ocado again but only if I had another voucher, as it's right to say they are pretty expensive.

I used to walk to my local Sainsbury's to get my shopping every Saturday (about a 20 minute walk). It's fine for getting stuff I need 'just' for the weekend, but it's a total pain in the bum (and fingers!) when I need to lug back pints of milk and massive boxes of cereal....

So now I do it all online. To be fair, Sainsbury's have been really good. Never really had any issues. There's been a couple of times where I've been missing items, but they happily refund them, no questions asked :)

It can be a bit annoying when you get squashed bread/tomatoes etc and I guess if you get fresh fruit and veg, it can be a bit hit and miss, but i'd rather pay ~£5 and not have to 1) Deal with a PACKED supermarket filled with screaming kids 2) Crippled fingers

Colour coded bags?

A bottle of wine broke in my van the other day. What a stench!

Used to get my veg from Riverfords, was good though I stopped after a while as the selection didn't suit my needs. Worth trying out though, seems quite popular when I have spoken to others about it.

Colour coded bags?

They deliver the food in different coloured bags according to whether they need to be refrigerated, frozen, or just put in the cupboard. The printout also lists the purchases in order of expiry date from soonest to latest, to help remind you what needs eating straight away. It might sound like they're treating you like an idiot, but it's actually quite handy.

I see. Don't see the point myself, I know what should be frozen and what lives in the fridge without a bag telling me so.
The expiry date thing does seem good but it's wouldn't be practical if they had a large number of orders, like ASDA and Tesco deal with. The time it would take to log that information would just take too long. But they are obviously trying to be more of a niche than ASDA and Tesco so can offer these things but I can't see them continuing to do this if there orders start increasing a lot unless I'm not understanding how they do it.

The food quality is primary for me but it just so happens that the service has also always been top quality too, the delivery drivers are always very friendly and personable, during the heavy snow period last winter they still got to me despite having to walk several hundred yards with my shopping due to the road being inpassable, never had anything mouldy or close to useby date either.

On the occasion i've bought fresh fish it's always been good, not much of a fish eater tbh but the meats I buy are always very good quality, ordered a smallish topside of beef recently, approx 1kg, seems they didn't have the weight I ordered so instead delivered me a 3.24kg topside of beef with a package price of £30, they price matched it with my preferred cut, so I ended up with a 3.24 kg topside priced at £30 for £8, great quality too.

Never thought of tesco delivery drivers as anything but competent tbh, I even on occasion have the pleasure of a hot blonde lady delivering to me!
Amongst the other drivers, one is a real film buff so we have a quick chat about old and new movies, another is a keen gamer who keeps telling me I must play Demons Souls, we also chat about gaming in general, and another regular driver was in the merchant navy for many years so I've had a few tales told about that, a really nice entertaining bunch of people who always do a great job and seem only too keen to please. I think they'd be pretty insulted to be thought of as grotesque, as you put it.:(

There's no point getting all hurt about it, everyone has a different experience. Do you work for them or something? It's probably something to do with the fact that my local Tesco is Redditch, which is a bit crap.

And 'Grotesco' is just a joke, everyone I know says it. It doesn't mean I think the delivery drivers are actually grotesque...conversely you seem to have fallen in love with them ;). We spend hundreds of pounds at Grotesco per month, but I still found the Ocado online experience to be better than the Tesco one.

With Tesco, we ordered two packs of prawns for a dinner party...on the day of delivery and of the dinner party, one turned up with no prior advisory of a missing item and no attempt to substitute with prawns from the counter. This meant we had to go to Tesco store anyway, defeating the purpose of paying their (fairly pricey) delivery charge. This is shoddy. It would be nice to be able to rely on online food delivery as if it were me going to the store...with Grotesco I don't have this confidence.

Not hurt and no I don't work for them, I'm just a bit suprised you find them so shoddy as I've always enjoyed such a great service, as you say though, different stores will probably have varying standards of service.
