anyone do their food shopping online?

I use Asda quite regularly mainly cos i hate walking around the store with the chavs and the ignorant people that just get in your way and dont even bother to say sorry. I also find it works out cheaper because i know what i want and at the end if i am over budget i can trim the order down. I have never had an issue with stuff being close to use by date. The only problem i have had was when they delivered my stuff and the icecream was melted (Was a hot day but didnt look like it was in the freezer section) so called them and they refunded me straight away with no problems. Another time they delivered an alternative that was not correct and they refunded straight away. They dont even ask for the wrong stuff back.

Not using online delivery again.

Ordered a few deliveries in the past month from Tesco. The stuff is invariably close to it's sell by date, the frozen stuff is always a bit dubious (ice-cream isn't really set, pizza's box are wet etc).

Just can't recommend it.

Why don't you try buying some real food then?:p I prefer to avoid the toxic sludge aisle and stick mainly to the meat, fruit and veg sections, it all seems to be pretty good from there.

On the meat you get so many points and can select what you want or they do a selected meat box. Unfortunately won't get meat till 29th of september, but veg boxes will get this week.

So will see how it goes, I'm worried I don't have enough freezer space.
Will let you know how I get on.

I've read this thread with interest as just the other day I was thinking of ordering food online (except meat, fruit and veg). I know Tesco give you time slots for delivery; do the others major supermarkets do the same?

Ocado charge £1 for delivery if you order Friday or Saturday evening 6-9, iirc. You have to spend £40 or more though.

got a £15 off Waitrose delivery !! Didn't even know they did :) will use it this time posh food how exciting. j/k! :)

The substitutions can be hilarious though! ....

yeah.... order 'make' of salt & vinegar crisps...... substitute .... erm cheese and onion... legend!

I order online sometimes - find they do give shorter codes .... Tesco ... delivered bruised bananas and grapes that were best before delivery date.... quick phone call ... refunded and a further £5 off.... so if you can be bothered its easy....
but nothing beats getting fresh from local shops if possible.

Morrisons are launching their delivery service this year....

Also I did state that a £5 air freshner was missing... I looked and looked ... (this was Asda) - told the driver and he took it off...... found it after he left...oops. Genuine mistake on my part so I mentioned it when I phoned them about the dates... they said dont worry and left the cost off!
Great customer service.

I feel sorry for the guy/lady who hauls the baskets in then stands and waits while you unpack weeks of shopping ... then suppose to check through a ream of shopping receipt!

That once happened with me, the woman wanted me to hang around whilst she phoned the call centre as she had had the same problem before (think it was just down to low stock of that particular item). I wasn't going to (nor do I normally have time to!), until I noticed she had a £5 note in her hand. That changes everything ;).

They give you stuff that's almost out of date, you often don't get the right items, and the Wine always mysteriously falls off the lorry.

Apparently it can't be stolen because only the driver has the keys to the alcohol locker!

And s/he wouldn't dare take it according to tesco anyway :)

You're paranoid. There isn't a big secret section in each shop where almost out of date stuff goes for home shopping. It all gets taken off the same shelves that in-store customers use. There isn't time for pickers to scramble around finding long dated items for you.
If you get the wrong items it is because the shop hasn't got them in stock. This happens when you go into the shop all the time, why would home shopping be any different?

I suggested to my mum the other day that we should do a monthly shop for tinned goods, cleaning products, and everything else that is not fresh goods once a month, and purchase fresh food once a week depending on what we would want to eat that week.

Yup - shop almost exclusively via Ocado, except the last 3 weeks as Sainburys sent me four "£12 off when you spend £60 or more" online vouchers.

It's liberating not wasting time trudging around a supermarket every Thursday evening.

I also bulk order meat packs for freezing from http://www.meatpacks.co.uk/

I can't even remember the last time I went shopping - not just for food. Clothes all bought online, loads of stuff from ebay etc.

I hate shopping - it's just such a big waste of time when I could be doing something more productive.
