Anyone else disappointed with progression of Car Interiors?

Maybe it's a generation thing.

I suspect your Directors are my age. My wife bought a Tesla with all the bits for her CEO (she is is PA) and it went after a few months as it was not what they made out when it came to range. I have a few mates who run them an it's mixed, some like them, some hate them, but one thing is consistent. The milage claims are miles off the claims in real world usage and the residuals on them (like the i8) tank because everyone is worried by batteries still. Also having had a good nose around them the quality is still off and I hate the big screen it's an ergonomic disaster to my eyes.

The REAL reason people buy them as company cars are the tax benefits. That's whey the are enthusiastic about them more often than not and as this forum shows, purchase justification is a disease for many people. Quick yes and if they did what they said I totally get the appeal, but this self drive, great range good performance story is spin. If you go fast, they need juice and even if you drive like a 7 series, they need juice before 200 miles.

Not mine, but exactly the same. I use the buttons on the steering wheel most the time, the touch screen always means I am about to hit a bump as I go to chose Radio 4 and end up dealing my mum.

I bought my 5 series purely based on the interior, it is my favourite of anything available at the time i bought it. That XC90 looks nice though, and i really like the new E class interior. I hate touch screens in cars too, they always have finger prints all over them, and as mentioned, there's no tactile feedback.

I think Audi have done a fantastic job with the new TT, back to form for them. They have made some of the very finest interiors over the years. Just a shame that most of their cars were boring and bland.

Is that a monochrome digital display from circa 1999 between the dials? :D

I think thats a prime example of an interior thats nothing like as good as it should be given the high price of the car. Plain styling and electronics that look like they were outsourced to Dynavin.

Range Rover interiors are just what Range Rover buyers want, just cos you are BMW FANBOYIS MAXIMIS doesn't mean you need to mention Dynavin in every JLR comment either.

I've said 'Dynavin' in 13 threads on this forum in the last 6 years, and most of those were about actual Dynavin units in BMW's 4+ years ago :D

It's clear where the JLR development money goes and it isn't on the interior. They make products that look absolutely wonderful on the outside and hope nobody notices the inside these days, outside of a few specific examples like the XJ.

There's a reason a Jag interior is starting to look like a Ford... Although that's a positive to me :D

pah, electric start, bring back the heater bulbs and crank handles i say!

so annoying that i can't change the fuel mix on the go in these modern yokes :p
i think steam power may be the way to go. horses are just too slow, but with steam power, you are literally rollin' coal and killing maximum polar bears. Also pressure gauges and shoveling coal is much more manly than sitting back in your heated/cooled leather seat, while it feels your aback and you poke your touch screen to change tracks on your Taylor swift album.

I like my 2007 period interior.

Crap sat nav, crap AC, crap steering wheel functions, crap phone functions, no iPod connection but you know what, I don't care. Great to sit in, great seats and 550bhp.

I like mine. It has a nice feel to it, despite the piano black centre section looking occasionally suspect in the wrong light :D And whilst the main infotainment display is touch screen, you can control most elements from the steering wheel with information nicely visible on the instrument cluster LCD. The climate control and basic audio buttons are decent physical controls which don't require any real concentration to use.

Entering a navigation destination is done through the touch screen but you do that before setting off anyway.

There is red stitching on the leather there to break up the sea of black :p
